The National Guard of El Cerrito, California is a militia organization that has been in existence since the early 1800s. The first national guard unit was organized on November 10, 1846 by Governor Pio Pico under the name of the San Francisco Provincial Militia. At their first meeting, they elected Captain George W. Dixon as its organizer and captain of company C. In 1865, The National Guardsmen were mobilized for the Mexican-American War and served with distinction. They took part in battles at Buena Vista and Monterrey until they left Mexico in September of 1865. In 1866, they were again called to active duty during the American Civil War because of fears of another war between the United States and Great Britain over Oregon Territory which had been acquired through The Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo. After the end of the war on April 14th, 1868, many National Guardsmen were discharged due to illness or retirement from military service due to old age or disease; however Captain Dixon continued to lead his unit into new times as it was reorganized as Company A (El Cerrito) on May 6th 1870 under command of Major John Ransom Gilbert who became its commanding officer two years later when Captain Dixon retired from active military service due to health problems caused by yellow fever. On January 1st 1898, Captain Dixon's company A was redesignated Company D (Parkside) following an event where a group of men went on a peaceful march calling for justice against Spanish rule when they were met with violence by mounted cavalry sent by General Antonio López de Santa Anna who ordered them dispersed. Many members including Captains Dixon and Gilbert lost their lives during this encounter although some managed to escape back home before being captured later that year when Santa Anna raided Rancho Rinconada near Bakersfield California looking for survivors among his forces which included elements from Company D (Parkside). Company D (Parkside) would continue serving with distinction throughout World War I until it disbanded upon cessation thereof on October 15th 1918 at Camp Commandant east coast naval station after having served continuously since 1871 without interruption other than one year during World War II while it concurrently served as Company E (San Pablo Avenue) at then Fort Mason Naval Air Station located adjacent thereon until disbanding thereon also effective October 15th 1918 along with all other units affiliated thereto prior thereto except for Company F (Oakland Boulevard), which still exists today asanchored off First Street near BART Boardwalk despite being inactive for almost 50 years During World War II stores along Third Street north side near San Pablo Avenue closed down due to bombing raids conducted by U-2 aircraft flown over Northern California while those stores reopened after repairs within weeks following cessation of hostilities but all operations ceased once again shortly thereafter making Third Street once again an open air pedestrian walkway providing access both ways

The El Cerrito National Guard was organized on December 8, 1916. The first battalion was activated and deployed to the Philippines in 1917. In 1919, the unit moved to California and became part of the United States Army. On November 1, 1923, the El Cerrito National Guard detachment at Fort Lyon became a full-fledged battalion under U.S.Army command with Headquarters and Base at Fort Lyon, California. In May 1945, all El Cerrito National Guard units were consolidated into one brigade under U.SArmy command with Headquarters at Camp Pendleton Naval Air Station and three brigades located at Elmira (New York), San Diego (California) and Stockton (California). The brigade also had detachments in Bakersfield (California), Chula Vista (California), Fillmore ( Californian )and Victorville ( California ). On July 14 1946 the brigade headquarters relocated from Camp Pendleton Naval Air Station to Offutt AFB Nebraska where it remained untilactivated on September 15 1951 as part of Red Flag program which ended on October 31 1951
El Cerrito is a city in Contra Costa County, California, United States. The population was 33,822 at the 2010 census. It is part of the San Francisco Bay Area. El Cerrito was founded on December 5, 1853 by Missionaries José María Bautista Cámpora and Fernando de Saúl Menéndez as Rancho Concepción de la Sierra y del Cerro. The name comes from Spanish el cerrado or "the closed range", which refers to its location between two ridges of mountains. The first Europeans to visit El Cerrito were Juan Bautista Aguilar and his brother Mateo Aguilar who landed on October 25, 1777 on land that now includes much of downtown El Cerrito. They named their small settlement San Lorenzo after Saint Lawrence (Latin: Sancion), an archbishop mentioned in the Bible according to one account andson of Noah who left an Ark with three beasts and six people inside it for refuge during the Flood. After months of exploring they found no water enough to make them safe so they returned home but left behind pottery jars filled with water which still lie today in various locations around town including at Adobe Park near US Highway 101 and MacArthur Boulevard; by Centinela Avenue near BART Station; Atwater Drive near busy City College Plaza; Trinidad Street near SR 169 ; Mount Diablo Road east of Interstate 580 ; and many other sites throughout town over time. European pioneers also discovered large quantities of GOLDEN FALLS SILVER mine goods being shipped downslope from Cupertino via Martinez Creek into Contra Costa County from 1848-1852 Two years later news arrived that General Antonio Vallejo had destroyed all the missions in Alta California because he felt threatened by Mexican sovereignty overrisers such as José Joaquín Castilla y Costilla whose forces included American volunteers led by John Charles Fremont across the state line into Nevada whereupon he built a Russian fortification at Las Vegas known as Fort Nez Perce while Mexican troops Occupied Californias under Captain Agustín Castro burned villages along Martinez Creek without any warning or compensation thereby helping start what would become known as Anglo-Mexican conflict). In response Commodore James Ketchum sailed his squadron upriver against Castro’s fleet anchored off Point Reyes National Seashore on July 12th 1855 seeking revenge for Mission losses at Palo Alto that year resulting in more than 190 dead including twenty Americans lost overboard when Ketchum ordered cannons fire upon shore breakers brought about by confused Coast Guard sailors) Porfirio Díaz became governor of Alta California effective November 15th 1850 bringing an end to Anglo-Mexican conflict just ten days after taking office when Mexico annexed California following news reports reaching Mexico City Of American presence within her boundaries despite previous assurances made to both nations). In spite of this event many families continued farming cattle, sheep and goats remains are still seen surrounding most parts of town today with wide open spaces providing excellent views into downtown San Francisco Bay . More recently El Cerrito has experienced growth in its commercial sectors such as high tech companies such as Google, Apple Music & Beats Electronics although some residents continue struggling economically with high rents & unaffordable housing prices

The first post office was established in El Cerrito in 1852. A railroad station was built in 1865 and served as a transportation hub for the surrounding area. After years of growth and development, El Cerrito reached its peak during World War II when it boasted an active military presence and hosted a number of defense-related events including air shows and naval exercises. However, following World War II there were declines in economic activity and population until the late 1970s when there began to be a significant revival led by new residents who have brought vitality to the town since then. Today, El Cerritos remains an important community with strong cultural roots that has seen steady growth throughout recent decades thanks to its innovative programming initiatives such as art walks and open-air concerts
