Tactical coffee began in El Cerrito, California in the early 1970s as a way to provide soldiers and Marines with an afternoon snack. The first recipe for tactical coffee was developed by Capt. John A. Campbell of the United States Marine Corps Reserve Command at Marine Barracks El Cerrito (now Joint Base Lewis-McChord). Campbell used ground beans and boiled water to make a caffeinated beverage that he called "Pepsi." The popularity of tactical coffee soon spread throughout the Marine Corps, and other branches of the military followed suit. Today, Tactical Coffee is enjoyed by civilians as well as military personnel worldwide. The company has even produced its own line of coffee products, including ready-to-drink cans and cold drinks. In 1921, The Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf moved to its current location on Third Street in El Cerrito. At this time they became known as the "Coffee Merchants". They continued to sell baked goods until 1957 when they closed their store due to a lack of customers.

However, as technology improved and people realized just how powerful espresso could be, they began to appreciate Tactical Coffee more for its unique properties than its rarity or price tag. Over time, even small-time baristas began to make their own batches of this delicious beverage using premium beans from local roasters. And now? There is nothing like a good tactical coffee!

El Cerrito is a city in Contra Costa County, California, United States. The population was 33,545 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Contra Costa County. The name "El Cerrito" comes from Spanish and means "the headland". The first European to visit El Cerrito was Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo on October 14, 1542. He named it San Carlos de las Alturas after his patron saint. El Cerrito would become an independent town on February 24, 1846 when it became part of Contra Costa County as part of the Gold Rush settlement which followed the discovery of gold at Sutro Mine in 1848. The post office at El Cerrito opened on December 12, 1850 and was renamed Anacapa because postmaster John A. Neely had sailed into San Francisco Bay from Acapulco with supplies for Mexican forces during the Mexican-American War (1846-48). In 1871, local businessman Domingo Ramos founded what is now known as Pacific Gas & Electric Company's Central Valley Transmission Line east of downtown El Cerrito and began service to other parts of California with shipments modeled after those made by ship downriver to Sacramento each day. This brought electricity to El Cerrito for the first time in its history on November 30th 1886 when residents turned out in force to celebrate inauguration of George Hines as Director General of Public Utilities within one week! It wasn’t until 1907 that electric streetlights were installed throughout the city center following a campaign started by Mayor Harry Waugh and Supervisor John Fenton with help from banker J P Bennett Sr.. In 1916 a new water tower was built adjacent to City Hall square near where Third Street meets Avenue Uptown today. This new water tower provided drinking water for citizens for over fifty years before being replaced by our current water tower in 2017 just south of City Hall square near Seventh Street! OnJune 15th 1947 election night Streetsboro voters rejected proposition 2 by a majority vote over 50% against annexation into El Cerrio including then Supervisor Arthur Ashe who represented Streetsboro community; this rejection led directly to ACLUstd v Richmond (1948) case that helped establish voting rights nationwide for all American citizens regardlessof race or ethnicity! The decision not only overturned Proposition 2 but also established precedent that cities could annex if they choose through their own elections instead of depending upon petitioning from outside interests
