The history of the El Monte Army deployed gift was started in 1942 when the United States Marines Corps stationed an artillery battalion there. The battalion was later renamed the 1st Marine Artillery Battalion and served in World War II. In 1945, the battalion relocated to Okinawa, Japan and began a new era when it became a part of Marine Combatant Command Southwest Pacific Area. In 1951, 1st Marine Artillery Battalion moved back to El Monte and continued its role as an integral component of USMC Forces in Southern California until itsactivation in 1966 as 5th Marine Regiment. The regiment's activation marked the first time that a military installation had been activated at El Monte since World War II. On 15 September 1966, during 9/11 terrorist attacks on New York City, 5th Marine Regiment mobilized to support USMCOPERATION DESERT STORM which lasted for three months. During this time,5th Marine Regiment conducted operations such as amphibious assaults, border crossings and air strikes against hostile forces in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. After being reactivated at Fort Irwin near San Diego County on 3 October 2006; 5th Marines Regimental Headquarters (HQ) is currently located at Camp Pendleton Navy Yard where it has been conducting peacetime training with USMC units from Los Angeles County since 2 May 2007 Since then; HQ has also participated in numerous deployments including CENTCOM RESPONSE TO SYRIA’s QASIM JUMADI phase I OPERATIONS & SUPPORT ; CENTCOM RESPONSE TO SOUTHERN HEMISPHERE’S MANILA BAY OPERATIONS On 21 January 2009; HQ deployed alongside USAFE Task Force Hammerhead to CARIBBEAN SEAFORCE COASTAL WATCHTOWER RAMP - A REMAINING PART OF THE MILITARY INTERESTED IN THE COUNTRY AFTER THE DECLINE OF PALAU On 8 February 2009; HQ deployed alongside USAFE Task Force Eagle Claw along with USSOCOM-PACIFICarea assets operating off NORTH AMERICA'S WEST COAST El Monte Army Depot stocks over 350 items such as grenades , rifles and pistols . The El Monte Army Depot was founded in 1917 and served as a storage, manufacturing and military supply depot. The depot closed in 1971 and the land was sold to the city of El Monte. In 1976, the city created the El Monte Armory to house weapons and equipment from the depot. Today, it is open to the public as an art museum.
El Monte, California is a city in San Bernardino County, California, United States. The population was 68,046 at the 2010 census. It is the second-largest city in San Bernardino County after Riverside. El Monte is part of the Greater Los Angeles Area. The town of Orange and the adjacent villages of Westminster and Fallbrook were laid out by Mexican land grants given to missionaries in 1836 as part of efforts to expand Anglo settlement into what was then predominantly Mexican territory. The first white settler arrived in 1839 with José Garza and his family from Mexico City; they began trading goods with local farmers and ranchers before building a cabin on a bluff overlooking the Potomac River. In 1853, grazer George Capps bought 5,000 acres (20 km2) of Rancho El Monte from Abelardo de la Torre for $5 per acre ($36 per km²). Capps introduced cattle farming here and added oak woodland to his property for grazing purposes. In 1862, he sold 1 million acres (400 km2) comprising much of present-day Los Angeles County to John Sutter for $25 per acre ($640 per km²). In 1863, when Southern Californians began protesting against statehood while remaining within Mexico, Sutter donated land to build an agricultural college; this became UCLA. In 1875, entrepreneur Donald Menard founded Menard's Department Store here which became one of America's largest retailers during the late 19th century; Menard also built orange groves around El Monte Hills south of downtown. He died suddenly in 1919 at age 86 years old after suffering a heart attack while driving near his store on State Route 66 near Pasadena. His son Rick opened Rick's Department Store two years later at 12479 Ventura Boulevard east of Anaheim that remains open today as one of America's largest department stores ever operated

El Monte is a small town in southern California, located about 25 miles north-northwest of Los Angeles. It has a population of about 30,000 people and is the county seat for Inyo County. The discovery of oil in Mexico in 1911 led to the founding of the City of El Monte by American entrepreneurs on February 15, 1912. The city was named after General Manuel Felipe de la Vega y Ortega, who fought in Mexican independence against French forces. The original business district centered around Fourth Street and Broadway; today it includes downtown El Monte as well as smaller shopping districts along Center and G Streets. Rail service now connects El Monte with downtown LA and other nearby cities. Oil production ceased at the end of World War I but resumed during World War II when new techniques were developed for extracting oil from shale formations near Kern County and eastern San Bernardino County. A new refinery was built in Del Paso Heights east of El Monte in 1944, making it one of Southern California's largest refineries before its closure in 1992. Oil production recommenced following Proposition 209—a campaign promise by then-Governor Jerry Brown to phase out affirmative action programs statewide—and increased due to an increase in energy prices throughout the late 1990s and early 2000s. In 2006,El Monte became part of Riverside County when Inyo (the westernmost) and Mono counties were combined into that county under Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger's initiative known as "Orange Counties". This made municipal boundaries more fluid than they had been since 1912 which gave rise to some confusion among residents over what city their services should be delivered to (e.g., City Hall/Downtown). As a result, many businesses closed up shop or merged with other local businesses while others relocated because they did not feel safe continuing business operations within such changing boundaries
