The El Monte National Guard was organized on December 12, 1912. The original members of the Guardsmen were men who had served in the Mexican Revolution or World War I. At its inception, the Guard numbered only 73 individuals. However, by 1918, it had grown to 1,500 soldiers and police officers from El Monte and adjacent towns. The Guard fought in many battles during World War II including those at Lompoc and Point Lobos. It also played a significant role in chorus against Japanese aggression during the war years. After the war, the Guard continued to serve local residents through various community functions and programs. In 1990, it merged with other California armories to form the California National Guard Bureau (CNGB). Today, El Monte's National Guard is one of 134 state guard units in California.

The National Guard has been a part of the United States since 1775. The first national guard unit was organized on December 14, 1775, when General George Washington ordered the raising of a regiment of 1,500 men from state militias to help protect New York City during the American Revolution. The first national guard troops were deployed in support of U.S. President George Washington in October 1776 during the Battle of Princeton and other battles in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. The Guard was activated on December 15, 1917 as an infantry regiment under command of Major General John J. Pershing during World War I. After the end of World War I, the Guard was reorganized as an armored division on April 1, 1920 and became a full-time military service organization with its own lieutenant general and corps commanders. On September 25, 1933, Congress passed Public Law 89-291 which amended Title 10 United States Code to make the National Guard one branch of the Department of Defense with its own secretary (the first such title created within that department). On May 16, 1945 President Harry S Truman authorized activation for two more Infantry divisions (the 117th Infantry Division and 195th Infantry Division) which would provide additional strength to American forces in EUROPEAN WESTWORD II following Japan's surrender at Hiroshima. These two divisions were activated on July 20 and August 15 respectively; however they only served until September 2 due to budgetary restrictions placed upon them by then Secretary OF Defence James Forrestal who saw them as just another armistice relief battalion instead of being used as actual combat units engaged in THE SECOND WORLD WAR against Japanese forces backed by America’s allies France & Russia Beginning in 1951 both Armor brigades were redesignated Troop Carrier Wing Sections before finally becoming brigade headquarters units subordinate directly to Army Chief Of Staff Corps Commanders/Lieutenant Generals commanding all Army Ground Forces Armies throughout continental USAs Continental Commands duty area
El Monte is a city in southern California. It was founded by Europeans in 1846 as the site of an agricultural outpost on the Los Angeles River. The population was 54,902 at the 2010 census. The first European settlers were Spanish traders and Missionaries from San Diego who named it La Portilla (the mouth of the river), after their original trading post near that settlement. The area now known as El Monte was part of Rancho Santa Anita, a grant to José Antonio Maria Borrero de los Ríos, granted in 1824. A military post called Fort Tejon developed here in 1856, but it burned down in 1861. In 1884, large tracts of land west of downtown were annexed to El Monte and became part of the new City of Los Angeles; while east-of-downtown portions remained annexed until 1959 when they became part of Compton Unified School District. In 1907, duringruction began on what would become Valley Plaza Shopping Center, which would be one of the most successful shopping centers in Southern California. The city's economy grew rapidly following World War II thanks to its proximity to Hollywood and its status as a bedroom community for Southern Californians working northward into the booming Central Valley region. The postwar boom ended with the economic recession beginning in 1968 and lasting through the early 1970s; nevertheless, El Monte continued to grow economically throughout this time period despite some challenges such as high crime rates and lack of infrastructure development. In recent decades however, growth has slowed slightly as suburbanization has increased competition for jobs within commuting distance from Los Angeles metropolitan areas; nevertheless, many businesses remain located within El Monte's boundaries including two major medical complexes (University Medical Associates/Stritch Regional Medical Center and Kaiser Permanente/Northridge Division), several aerospace companies (Lamborghini Americas Manufacturing Inc., Pratt & Whitney Aircraft Engines Co.), three university campuses (UCLA/Los Angeles County College/Westwood Village Campus; Middleton Community College District Branch Campus; Monterey Coast Open Space Preserve Campus), four theme parks (Hollywood Studios Theme Park IMAX 3D Theatre Single Screen Theatre concessions stand King Kong attraction[5], Six Flags America amusement park[6]), three golf courses (Lake Arrowhead Resort & Country Club[7], Topanga Hills Golf Course) and numerous small businesses catering to a wide range of needs such as pet sitting services, daycare providers etcetera.[8] El Monte is located along US 101 between Oxnard Road on its northern border and Antelope Canyon Boulevard on its southern border - making it easily accessible by freeway or public transportation from both LOS ANGELES COUNTY AND SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY THIS WEEKEND!
