With prohibition behind them, the Acostas sold their business to George Hirschfeld who operated it until 1951. It then passed through several hands before being acquired by Joe Macchio in 1969 who operated it until 1978 when it was closed due to financial problems. It reopened under new ownership in 1984 and has remained open ever since. El Paso De Robles is a small town in San Bernardino County in southern California, United States. The population was 10,812 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Riverside–San Bernardino–Ontario Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name "El Paso" comes from the Spanish word "el paseo" meaning "the path." The first European to visit El Paso was Francisco Vasquez de Coronado in 1542. By 1821, there were only about 150 people living here and it had been abandoned by Mexicans for years due to prohibition laws of the Mexican government. On July 4th, 1846, during California's Mexican-American War (1846-48), American General John Brougham battle skirmished with Mexican troops under Colonel Antonio Lopez near what is now downtown El Paso while trying to drive them out of California. A day later on July 5th, Mexico declared war on America and invaded California; this event became known as the Alamo Invasion. At this time most of the men who had fought at Sacramento went over to Mexico because they did not want their families back in America if war ensued between both countries. In 1847 when peace came through after a yearlong standoff/battle between Americans and Mexicans across Texas and New Mexico, most of these men returned home including Lopez who stayed behind with a band of horsemen loyal to Santa Anna until his death two years later in 1850s at age 73. From then until 1861 no further white settlers arrived in any form or shape due to violence wrought by both sides during the American Civil War (1861-65). In 1865 Union General Ulysses S Grant decided that El Paso would be his winter headquarters before moving on downriver towards Lodi which he accomplished on December 12th 1865 just north of present-day Moreno Valley where he camped for three months before continuing his march southward downriver towards Tucson Arizona Territory which he reached on February 14th 1866 after spending almost six weeks traveling through snowdrifts what today is called the Colorado River Gorge National Monument located east of Interstate 10 just outside present-day Joshua Tree National Park A post office called El Paseo was established here on October 1st, 1886 by James Gorman and opened up service for residents within two weeks having originally been built as a general store adjacent to Citizens Bank building now used as an Islamic center . The first election held here was November 6th 1886 with George Waring as mayor; Waring served one term only being succeeded by Augustus Cogswell who served four terms totaling 22 months from 1889 until 1893 . In 1896 incumbent Mayor Waring ran again but lost handily to Democrat Ambrose Coleman . Coleman made history becoming first African American elected Official atlarge ever when he won unopposed against dentist Luther Strange Jr.; Strange also represented Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department during this time period On January 3rd 1907 local physician Dr. Samuel Sanger opened up what is today known as Sanger’s Pharmacy which would become one of largest drugstores west coast once open 24/7 starting operations days/hours earlier than many other stores even though it was technically illegal then In 1912 local school board member Hiram Clarke offered land surrounding current day Covina Boulevard for educational purposes should another small town like West Covina arise nearby wanting such an opportunity so soon after San Bernardino County formed its own school district ; this offer led eventually to East Covina High School opening its doorsirenally doorsteps from Covina Boulevard in 1929 following vote by voters therewith ratifying plans made earlier that same year by county supervisors Harry Nunn and Virgil Goodlett regarding agricultural high schools serving portions of eastern San Bernardino County instead primarily serving western Riverside County although some areas within eastern RiversideCounty were included such as Diamond Bar & Ramona) In 1932 local carpenter Harvey Hirsch started construction on what would become Hoyt Street running east from State Road 128 approximately midway between Interstate 10 & I-10 exit 204 providing access via private lot off highway until 1965 when state road number 128 became standard naming convention for all major highways withinCalifornia starting with I-10
