El Paso De Robles is a small city located in the San Joaquin Valley of California. The population was 31,812 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Fresno-Madera, CA Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name "El Paso" comes from Spanish and means "the crossing." The city was founded by Juan Bautista Elías de la Barca in 1769 as part of Rancho El Paso del Norte. Captain James Cook discovered the area in 1795 during his explorations through what is now Fresno County and named it after his discoveries - he called it El Paseo (the path). In 1836, Mexico acquired portions of California and granted land to Californians for settlement. American ranchers began to arrive in about 1855 and gradually increased their presence until all but one Mexican ranch had been bought or donated by 1892 when Nevada became a U.S. statehood. A post office called El Paso opened in 1898 and continued operation until 1907 when it was moved to nearby Visalia because of its importance as an agricultural center for both counties. The first white settlers arrived in what are now east Fresno County around 1850 while they were working on new irrigation systems near East Los Angeles and Needles; these early settlers included John Capps, who died young at age 24 while helping build a dam across the river at Sespe Creek; James Eads, who helped found Contact Mines Company near Porterville; Dan White, who built a cabin on Humboldt Springs Road about two miles west of present-day downtown El Paso; Hiram Waddell’s family also settled thereabouts around 1865-66under guidance from General John Custer during his campaign against Apache Indians led by Cochise leader Geronimo Ortiz beginning December 15th Ortiz attacked wagon trains traveling down Ira Cruz Canyon road northeast of present day Civic Center plaza

El Paso De Robles is a small, unincorporated community in El Paso County, California. Its ZIP code is 85719. The population was 1,589 at the 2010 census. The first European to visit what is now El Paso De Robles was Juan Bautista de Anza on Feb. 14, 1769. He became the first European to explore and map the San Gabriel Valley region of southern California when he set out from Santa Barbara on horseback along what is now Interstate 10. In 1821, José Maria Martín Ventura founded a mission at Rancho San Vicente y Los Baños (now part of downtown Pasadena). The mission failed due to lack of support from Spanish colonists in Southern California and it was abandoned in 1825. After Mexicanindependence from Spain in 1821, Mexico began planning its own path for itself as an independent country and signed the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo on August 12 that year giving Mexico full sovereignty over all of North America east of the Rio Grande River including Southern California. Mormons arrived in Southern California during this time and started building their settlements around Mission San Gabriel Arcángel (1831) and Rancho La Brea (now Los Angeles), both within present-day Pasadena City limits. In 1836, Mormon pioneers John Cashion and his brother James built Fort Tejon near today's Highway 210 exit 11 south of Downtown Los Angeles. They were forced out by Mexican forces following the Alamo Rebellion in February 1840 after they refused to leave their fort while supplies were being delivered to MexicanGeneral Antonio López de Santa Anna's army besieging Fort Tejon from May 29-June 5th.
