El Segundo is a city in Los Angeles County, California, United States. The population was 66,641 at the 2010 census. It is located on the former Santa Monica Freeway and now lies withinooth of Hollywood. El Segundo is one of Southern California's most affluent communities and has been called "the most beautiful small town in America." The area that would become El Segundo was first settled by Europeans in 1846 as part of Rancho San Fernando de las Palmas. In 1881, the railroad linked L.A. with Pasadena and Valley Village became an important community in southern Los Angeles County because it had easy access to rail travel. In 1907, developer Waddell Crain bought land adjacent to present-day Harbor Boulevard for $1 million and began developing what would become El Segundo into a planned community with homespun streetscape and imported architecture by architects such as McKim, Mead & White. The first houses were built in 1909 on a golf course grant from Queen Victoria of England.. In 1922, when Claremont Highway was completed between Pasadena and Valley Village (now Interstate 5), development accelerated as people sought to move closer to their jobs in nearby cities during an economic expansion known as the Roaring Twenties. By 1927, more than 1,000 homes had been built on two blocks bounded by Harbor Boulevard (northwest corner), State Street (southwest corner), Pacific Avenue (east corner), and Claremont Highway (southwest corner). During World War II, El Segundo played an important role as an military airfield serving both North American Air Force commands flying Training Command missions over Orange County before transitioning into active duty June 1942 until the end of hostilities May 1945; allocating significant resources towards this purpose while not affecting other aspects of local society or infrastructure like water supplies or schools which continued uninterrupted throughout war time period despite lack of military personnel assigned directly to support them.. The post-war years saw rapid redevelopment due largely to waves of GI immigrants coming through southern California during the late1940s - these arrivals brought their own social programs with them which helped spur further development including high rises along Harbor Boulevard that remain today among some of LA's tallest buildings

In 1949, Congress created the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) as part of President Truman’s New Deal agenda to help ensure that America would lead the world in space exploration. With this new agency in place, it became evident that there was an need for a gift history like no other. Since its creation, NASA has made numerous contributions to society both inside and outside of space. Some of these have included developing equipment used by astronauts today such as oxygen masks and lifeboats; helping scientists learn about space weather; providing technical assistance during disasters such as Hurricane Katrina; creating exhibits at scientific conferences around the world; donating land to NASA sites across America; and more! El Segundo is a city in Los Angeles County, California, United States. The population was 105,394 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Greater Los Angeles Area and its metropolitan area has a population of 2.3 million people. The first European to visit El Segundo was Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo on October 15, 1492 while exploring the San Fernando Valley. After landing on Isla Navidad in November of that year he named it Santa Catalina because his ship had been found there by sailors from Spain's Conquistador expedition led by Hernando de Soto. In 1795 John Cranch built a mill on what is now Harbor Boulevard and named it after himself for his purchase of land from José Joaquín de Huerta y Dominguez in 1802. In 1857, James Waugh purchased 640 acres (270 hectares) including present-day El Segundo from Juan Bautista Recalde for $10 per acre ($2/ha). Waugh developed this land into a large agricultural community with fruit orchard, vineyards and dairy farms which became one of Southern California's most important winegrowing regions during the late 19th century. The citys growth was accelerated by World War II when many workers who went to work in naval shipyards or aircraft plants moved into the city and soon formed its own social clubs and churches that helped create an vibrant civic life which continues to this day During World War II Japanese Americans were relocated to El Segundo through Executive Order 9066 as part of the relocation program known as "Operation Reinforce" which aimed to remove all Japanese Americans living within three miles (5 kilometers) ofLos Angeles County lines – an operation that ultimately failed due to strong opposition from local citizens
