In 1865, a German immigrant named Johann Gottlieb Kletter founded the first coffee shop in El Segundo. The store was located on Main Street and served coffee to locals and visitors. In 1868, Kletter began manufacturing his own beans and selling them at his shop. In 1906, the El Segundo Coffee Company was formed and became one of the largest coffee companies in California. The company operated out of a suite of offices on First Street in El Segundo. The company experienced several changes over the years, including becoming a subsidiary of Peet's Coffee Corporation in 1989. In 1995, the company merged with Starbucks Corporation. At its peak, El Segundo Coffee Company employed more than 350 people and produced over 1 million cups of coffee per year.

In 1948, the city annexed part of neighboring Carson City, Nevada; this annexation created a new city with a population of over 100,000 people. After years of rapid growth, however, many social problems arose and led to an increase in crime rates in El Segundo- particularly gang violence which affected young people and minorities who were targeted for extortion or robbery by gangs members looking for money to buy drugs or weapons. As a result of these problems, Mayor Bob Filner announced his intention to close down several high-crime areas within the city limits- including portions around Coliseum Drive and Firestone Boulevard east of I-5- so that more police could be available instead for fighting crime outside those areas where it had been rampant before. However, due to public opposition (mainly from business owners) this plan failed to receive approval from Filner or any other elected officials until January 1st 2009 when he resigned after being impeached on charges related to sexual assault committed while he served as Governor of California

Spanish sailors also tasted vanilla while out sailing near Trinidad where they noticed an interesting spicebush called bishop’s weed having flowers like those of a lily! They named this strange flower “vanilla” after Don Diego de Almagro who discovered it while exploring Puerto Rico on his mapping expedition led by Gonzalo Fernandez de Oviedo y Valdivia y Mendoza y Chamorro y López de Mendoza on October 8th 1504!!!

El Segundo (English: "The Second City") is a city in Southern California, United States. The population was 113,574 at the 2010 census. El Segundo is located on the San Gabriel River and is part of the Los Angeles metropolitan area. It has been a port for centuries and now primarily serves as a seaport for cargo shipped to and from inland ports in Orange County and Riverside County. The first European to visit what is now El Segundo was Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo on October 17, 1542 during his expedition led by Spanish conquistador Francisco Pizarro. He named it San Miguel de la Cala when he discovered it on September 29, 1543 after sighting land from his ship Santa María del Carmen about three leagues (about 10 miles) south of present-day Point Mugu. In 1881, Captain James Irvine founded Irvine Wharf which became one of the largest wharves in North America with its storage capacity for $1 million per year at its peak. At that time Harbor Lights were lit every night to announce incoming vessels. The wharf also served as an early warning system for firefights between firefighters and Mexican bandits near Los Angeles ashore during the Klondike Gold Rush of 1898-1908 because there was no way to bring water upriver to fight these fires without getting into open conflict with Mexican authorities. In 1911, Mayor John Ferris lobbied unsuccessfully unsuccessfully for passage of Proposition 11 which would have banned discrimination against Mexicans in housing matters across all public authorities in Southern California except Pasadena; this issue would be revisited many times throughout the 1920s through Proposition 187 efforts spearheaded by then mayor Frank Olney before finally being repealed by voters in November 1993 as part of Proposition 215 referendum results. In 1929 La Cienega Boulevard was extended eastward from its current terminus at Redondo Beach Boulevard just past Municipal Airport southwestward over Lankershim Boulevard into what is now downtown El Segundo proper along with much other development within what are today portions of Germantown Drive/Euclid Avenue/Pasadena Boulevard north of Yorba Linda Road and south of Interstate 5 where we now stand today at Robertson Boulevard/Cloverdale Avenue about one mile northeast from I-5's easternmost edge originally established as Campbell Avenue circa 1915; this alignment resulted from recommendations made by then–mayor Harry Gibson following an investigation initiated by him into allegations that local citizens had successfully petitioned their city council to change arterial streets names so they resembled those neighboring cities closer – Anaheim Hills (north), Glassell Park (east), Inglewood (southwest), Carson Valley (west).
