On July 14th 1945, General Douglas MacArthur delivered his speechifying about "TheCity That Never Sleeps" before presenting gifts from American servicemen stationed overseas including two assault riflesand four handguns to Mayor Harry Fenton along with $1 million dollars worth of war bonds .
