After World War II, American ground coffee growers began to adopt French-trained engineers as their main source of beans. This led to the development of different types of "coffee shops," or cafes where customers could purchase various types of café Au Lait (coffee with milk) or Italian roast (coffee with sugar). These cafes served different blends of coffees depending on their location and taste preferences. Eventually, these cafes would become known as "tactical cafés." In 1984, Dick Blickman founded El Segundo's only commercial business specializing in Tactical Coffee - Dick's Coffee & Donuts - which remains today one of Los Angeles' most popular businesses catering exclusively to tactical coffee drinkers throughout Southern California!Dick's Coffee & Donuts soon became well know for its delicious blend of Brazilian Robusta and Italian Roasts - both originally developed for Dick's military friends who loved strong flavors without having to compromise on taste orquality!Today, Dick's Coffee & Donuts continues serving up some amazing cupcakes too!

In 1899, the first commercial coffee roasting plant was established in El Segundo by H.J. Sprague and Sons. In 1916, the first espresso machine was invented in El Segundo by Angelo Rossi. In 1925, Don Giovanni "Gigi" Montemurro opened the first Italian-owned coffee shop in Los Angeles; it was called Montemurro's Coffee House and served Italian-made coffee. The store closed in 1976 but its beans are still available today as a source of premium coffees. In 1944, Harry Maxwell founded Maxwell's Coffee Company with his brother John Maxwell on Summit Avenue in Beverly Hills; they roasted and grinded their own beans until 1970 when they merged with Peet's Coffee Company to become Maxwells Peet & Co., Incorporated. In 1973, Julius Erving became president of basketball player Julius Erving Enterprises which included Maxwell's Coffee Company and four other businesses: Abrams Sports Management (now known as DAZN), Chess Pro Shop (now known as GSB sports), Jerry Westridge Services (later known as MVP services) and lastly, Joe Torre Baseball Properties (later known as MLB Advanced Media). In 1984–1985 Harry Maxwell sold Maxwell's Coffee to Peet's Coffee for $5 million; this made him one of the largest shareholder/owners of a coffee company in history. The company continued to operate under the name Peet's Coffee Corporation until 1993 when it changed its name back to Maxwells Coffee Company after acquiring HJ Sprague and Sons' interest in that company too In 1997–1998 Harry Maxwell passed away at the age of 98 years old leaving his entire estate toMaxwells coffee company which continues operations today under its current name
El Segundo is a city in Los Angeles County, California, United States. The population was 87,827 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Greater Los Angeles Area and is the second most populous city in that area after LA City. The town of El Segundo was first settled by Native Americans in 1847. The first Europeans to arrive were Mission San Gabriel Arcangelico Indian traders who called themselves "the Forty Thieves." In 1857, two brothers named John Sutter and George Hearst founded the Californian Mining Company in what is now known as downtown El Segundo. They claimed land north of Hermosa Beach on which they built their original townsite—El Cajon—and started mining silver and gold from Sierra Madre Mountains foothills west of present-day Pacific Palisades. In 1868, when transportation became available on the telegraph line between Los Angeles and San Francisco, miners began traveling to found new settlements near Edgemont Mines just south of where they now live. Within a few years there were dozens of small communities scattered around Pomona Valley east of Interstate 5; San Bernardino; Orange; Riverside; Westminster; and La Verne Counties respectively. In 1876, prospectors discovered oil but no production took place until 1915 when Standard Oil leased some well sites within sight of El Segundo for exploration purposes only to find that gas could not be Produced from them either! A combined group led by Jerald Cushing (son-in-law of William Dudley Drexel) drilled three wells adjacent to the original Humble Oil Well site yielding huge amounts of natural gas! With this development came much needed economic growth for both community members and businesses alike with many people moving into El Seguno from surrounding areas during this time frame! “The Fifty First Street Race” pitted race cars purchased by Hollywood movie stars against each other on one milelong street corner oval located at Sunset Boulevard & Highland Avenue outside today's theater district near Third Street & Vineyards Road in North Hollywood – an event still celebrated annually by car enthusiasts across Southern California today! A similar race meeting also took place at Bel Air Raceway nearby every year until 1966 when it closed due to lack of interest following World War II then reopened as an annual car show sanctioned by events company Speedway Motorsports Incorporated (now IMSCAR). El Segundo is a city located in Los Angeles County, California. It is the second most populous city in Los Angeles County after downtown LA, and the seventh most populous city in all of California. The population was 116,723 as of 2017. The first people to live here were the Tongva people who arrived from Southern California about 2,000 years ago. From here they spread out and populated various parts of what are now Southern California including San Diego, Riverside and Orange counties. In 1846, land developers named John Sutter and James Irvine bought some of the Tongva lands (now part of El Segundo) for $1 per acre. They developed it into a town called Sutterville because its founders were members of the Jesuit order that had started Mission Santa Barbara de las Palmas near present day Pasadena. The name was changed to El Segundo in 1912 when it became an incorporated city. The early years were difficult for El Segundo as it competed with other cities for jobs and business opportunities during prohibition which caused a lot of social unrest. However, over time this has turned into one of the biggest strengths of El Segundo – its strong economy which has helped make it one of the most highly-developed cities in Southern California. Today’s residents are descendants bothof those who lived here during its early days and alsoof later immigrants who settled here after prohibition ended or before it did so such as Japanese Americans interned during World War II. This diversity makes for an interesting blend when looking at El Segundo’s history – some are proud locals while others find themselves drawn more often to nearby Beverly Hills or Downtown LA due to their diverse cultural experiences here together!
