It is part of the Fresno-Mandan-Beechhurst Metropolitan Statistical Area. The history of Elk Grove dates back to 1865 when Capt. George Clements and his men operated a Rancho San Antonio de los Algodones in present day Elk Grove Village. In 1875, Captain Clements sold property that included what is now Elk Grove Village to James Fenton for $1,000 cash. The City of Elk Grove was incorporated on February 14, 1892 as part of Fresno County and it became an official city on April 1, 1907 with a total population of 58,594 people living in 571 blocks. In 1966 and 1967, Elmira College moved from its original location on Stockton Boulevard to what is now the northeast corner lot near Southern Pacific Railroad tracks east of I-5. A new college campus was built including football and baseball stadiums which were dedicated by President Lyndon B Johnson in 1968 and Lieutenant Governor Ronald Reagan in 1969 respectively; both events marking the beginning of a period during which ElksGrove became one of Northern California's most vibrant communities culturally and economically struggling only to rebound stronger than ever following successive economic downturns throughout the 1990s hiatus until reaching its current pinnacle as a major cultural center for Silicon Valley entrepreneurism today having been ranked No. 1 outof 100 "Best Places To Work" by Forbes Magazine in 2017 . ElkGrove has also become known for its annual Cherry Blossom Festival held throughout late March/early April each year preceding Chinese New Year celebrations

Elk Grove is a city in Sacramento County, California. The population was 44,859 at the 2010 census. Elk Grove is part of the Sacramento–Arden-Arcade–Roseville, CA Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first references to an "elk" are found in 1838 when Wm. Hutton reported finding six elks on his property in present-day Elk Grove. By 1860, there were twenty elks living in the city and twelve on adjoining farms outside of town. By 1900, there were over one hundred elk living in the city and thirty-four on adjacent farms. In 1906, the Umpqua River flooded and destroyed most of downtown Elmira; as a result, Elk Grove became the first American city to have its own water supply and sewer system - this was also done by other cities through state legislation which passed after that event. In 1930, developers began planting trees along Elkhorn Avenue between North First Street and North Second Street because they believed that this would create more homes than if they had built on land without trees. The tree planting continued until about 1970 when it stopped due to lack of money from developers who no longer wanted their homes built near a park where their children could play
Elk Grove is a city in Sacramento County, California, United States. The population was 25,711 at the 2010 census. Elk Grove is located on the north-central border of Sacramento County and shares borders with Folsom to the east, Auburn to the south-west, and Vacaville to the north. It is bordered by El Sobrante to the southeast and east, Oak Park to the northwest and west, and View Park to the south. The name "Elk Grove" first appeared on maps in 1859 when Cushman & Wakefield published their map of Sacramento Valley. The present City of Elk Grove was founded in 1889 as part of what was then called South Sacramento Township (now eastern Riverside County). In 1907 it became part of what was then called North Sacramento Township (now western Contra Costa County). The city's original site was near where later development would occur including: Elmhurst Cemetery (later moved), John Deere Farms/Pine Lake Golf Course (now Goldwater Marsh Wildlife Preserve), Elk Grove High School (later moved), and parts of today's Elmhurst Village Area. A landfill situated just north-east of today's downtown area became home for early steel production starting in 1926 until it closed its doors in 1974; this land now forms most of downtown Elk Grove. In 1930 annexed by Sacramento city limits – becoming one municipality within that city limits – Elk Grove voters ratified a proposition creating an experimental community for Negro Americans withincity limits which functioned as both governmentality testing ground for social engineering experiments carried out by white developers working with African American residents during segregationist times; eventually all Black citizens living withincity limits were reassigned from White neighborhoods into black ghettos known respectively as Addison Gardens/Stuyvesant Heights/Brooklyn Heights while whites retained their addresses withincity limits but essentially had no say over their lives once they entered into such segregated communities while racist housing policies continued unchanged throughout much ofAmerica through race-based discrimination against Blacks
