Doherty and his team at The Coffee House on Telegraph Road. Captain Doherty is considered to be the father of tactical coffee because he developed the recipe for what would become known as "Doherty's Special."

The city was founded in 1868 by George C. Smith and named for the large elk that he saw near the original site. Tactical Coffee has a long and interesting history. It started as a small coffee shop in the heart of downtown Seattle, and has since grown into one of the largest and most popular coffee shops in the Northwest. Tactical Coffee is well-known for its unique blends of coffee, as well as its friendly atmosphere and great customer service. The first Tactical Coffee was opened in 1984 by two friends, Ronny Eriksson and Curt Lundahl. The shop was located at Fourth Avenue South and Mercer Street in Seattle’s historic Pioneer Square district. At the time, it was one of the only businesses in town that offered coffee with an international flavor profile. In 1990, Ronny passed away suddenly after a long battle with leukemia. Curt took over running Tactical Coffee until his own death in 2002. Shortly thereafter, another friend, Jonathon Sclater joined the business as co-owner. Jonathon continued to run the business until he died in 2006 from pancreatic cancer. In his memory, we have renamed our store “Jonathon”s Coffee Shop & Café. Over time, Tactical Coffee has developed a wide range of specialty coffee drinks that are enjoyed by both customers and employees alike. Some of their popular offerings include: Cappuccino: A delicious blend of ground beans from Italy and Ethiopia) served espresso-style with milk or water decaf blend (or any other strength desired) for those who prefer not to drink caffeine (or those who cannot afford it) Turkish Delight: Our signature item made with roasted hazelnut milk chocolate chips added to hot water which is then poured over ice cream or sorbet like style latte art! Elk Grove, California is a city located in the Central Valley of California. It was founded in 1876 by John Sutter and his partner, George Hearst. The city was named for the elk that were common on the local Rancho San Joaquin. In 1879, the City of Sacramento was founded at the junction of Nevada Avenue and Stockton Boulevard. By 1886, there were over 100 businesses in town and it had a population of 7,000 people. The townsite changed hands several times before it was purchased by David Hogg in 1903 for $10,000. On November 5th, 1916 Hogg donated land to the City for use as a public park. It became Elks Grove Park on May 9th, 1924 Amendments to the United States Constitution listed Elk Grove as part of Northern California because it lies within commuting distance of Northridge (the then-largest city in Los Angeles County). The Great Depression hit Elk Grove hard; between 1930 and 1935 its unemployment rate reached 41%. However, during World War II most manufacturing activity shifted to nearby Norwalk because of wartime demand for military materials such as aluminum tubing and aircraft parts. downtown business owners did not suffer however prices for goods increased significantly due to wartime shortages caused by rationing
