The United States Air Force (USAF) is the aerial warfare service branch of the U.S. military and one of the largest in the world. Encinitas Air Force Base is a military base located in Encinitas, California. The United States Air Force has its origins at this location. It was first established as the Army's Camp Goodwin in 1927. In 1941, it became an airfield under the command of Ninth Air Force. The following year, it was redesignated as an airbase and assigned to First Air Force. In 1947, it became part of Ninth Air Force's European Theater of Operations and absorbed those commands. On 1 February 1949, First AF was redesignated as the 9th Bombardment Wing andactivated here along with other units from I Bomber Command (USAAF). The wing initially operated B-29 Superfortresses but transitioned to Boeing KC-135 Stratotankers in 1953. Encinitas, California is a city located in the San Diego County region of Southern California. The population was 757 at the 2000 census, and it has grown to 1,815 as of the 2010 census. It is bordered by La Jolla to the south and east, Solana Beach to the north and west, Encinitas Island to the north-east and southeast,and Carlsbad Caverns National Park to the south-west. The city began as a small farming community in 1885 on Encino Creek about two miles northeast of present-day Encinitas. By 1920, Encinitas had become an important commercial center with its own post office and railroad station. During World War II, Encinitas became one of USAAF's most heavily defended airfields in southern California due to its strategic location near Baja California Peninsula. Encinitas, California is located in the San Joaquin Valley on the eastern edge of Paso Robles County. It was named for Encinitas Creek, which flows through the community. The first Europeans to visit Encinitas were fur traders from Russia and Alaska who established a trading post there in 1824. In 1849, Spanish missionaries arrived in Encinitas to start a mission at Rancho de las Pulgas. In 1852, the Mexican government gave ownership of Rancho de las Pulgas to Francisco Pico to settle an issue with Yerba Buena Company on that property. In 1875, when California became a republic, Presidencia Vallejo proposed naming it "Rancho del Paraíso" after Mount Wilson and Lake Tahoe but this proposal was not carried out. The name "Encinitas" was finally given to the community by General John Condon during his tenure as governor of California in 1886. By 1890, encinita had population of 1,100 people and included sixty-six businesses. A train depot was built at the original site in 1907 and freight trains servedencinita until 1964 when Interstate 5 replaced them. Since then,encinitas has undergone various redevelopment efforts including reclamation of land for housing and commercial development; establishment of local schools; major renovation projects including new hospitals and city hall; and addition of several parks/open space areas including Coyote Hills Recreation Area, Dogpatch Park off I-5 south of town (now part of Eastman Park),the former Naval Shipyard at Seal Beach east of town (now part as Playa Vista Peninsula),and La Jolla Cove State Marine Reserve northwestof town (now Visalia Harbor). The project announced last year by Mayor Darrell Steinberg would add an estimated $2 billion over ten years to local infrastructure needs by bringing new roads, water systems, public transportation systems and other amenities such as a new stadium for the Los Angeles Rams football team which is currently under construction adjacent to Golden State Common School District #4’s high school campus—an important center for economic development around downtown Encinitas—making it one stop shopping for all types Of products needed for modern living along with jobs available in many different fields throughout central Southern California
