Army deployed gift history in Encinitas, California began with the enlistment of the men of Encinitas in 1898. The land that now makes upEncinitas was first developed as Rancho San Miguel de las Flores by Spanish settlers. By 1878, there were twenty-five families living on the rancho and fifteen workers employed in its farming and ranching activities. When much of central California fell to Mexico during the Mexican-American War (1846-1848), portions of Rancho San Miguel de las Flores passed into Mexican hands. In 1863, a group of American soldiers under General John Buford arrived at Paso Robles to fight for Mexico against America. Camp Kearny was established near Paso Robles soon after and became home to many American troops until it was abandoned in 1865. After the war, many soldiers who had served at Camp Kearny came back to live in Encinitas and opened a small grocery store which they called The Barracks on Main Street. In 1898, when Encinitas became an incorporated city, The Barracks closed its doors for good and various Army barracks located throughout town were converted into stores or used as residential structures. One such barracks that remained open through all these changes was Fort Funston which housed the Signal Corps from 1915-1917 and again from 1920-1928. In 1941, when FortFunston reopened as part of Coast Guard Station Santa Maria following World War II, it reverted back to Army use as Headquarters & Headquarters Company (HQ & HC) 1st Battalion 7th Infantry Regiment (1/7IR). HQ & HC 1st Battalion 7th Infantry Regiment operated out of Fort MacArthur until their withdrawal in 1951 pursuant to Operation Coronet which led to the Korean War. Army deployments have continued sporadically through local military installations ever since then but they have always been smaller scale operations than what we see today with detachments operating here on a temporary basis providing support services for larger combat engagements overseas or conducting humanitarian relief missions within our own backyard! As we move into2014 we can expect even more military activity here at home due to both regional conflicts abroad as well as preparations for whatever future wars may occur! It is interesting to note that while there has been an increase over recent years in terms of size of formations being deployed here locally - especially outsideencinitas – no similar increase has occurred when it comes to number of gifts given! This could be attributed largely to our community’s strong tradition Of giving backpacks instead! The Encinitas Army Garrison was activated on December 8, 1892. The original detachment consisted of three officers, thirteen enlisted men and one cannon. On November 1, 1898 the detachment was increased to four officers, thirty-six enlisted men and two cannons. In 1907 the detachment was again increased to five officers, forty-eight enlisted men and three cannons. On July 1, 1912 the detachment was reduced to four officers and thirty-six enlisted men when it became clear that a new military installation would be built in Encinitas. The detachment disbanded on October 1, 1912 due to budget restraints.
Encinitas, California is a small city located in San Diego County, California. The population as of the 2010 census was 31,611. The Encinitas Fault runs through the city and has been responsible for several destructive earthquakes over the years. The first inhabitants of Encinitas were Native Americans who lived in the area that is now downtown Encinitas. Mission San Diego de Alcalá founded a mission in 1769 and after several years it closed because of lack of funds. Mexican independence fighters passed through this region on their way to battle against Spain in 1821, which led to an influx of English settlers into this area during that time. The first successful oil well was drilled here by John D brought rigs from Pennsylvania on October 10th 1887 under license from General Samuel Gompers. This event marked the beginning of Encinitas’s Boomtown Era and production continued until 1907 when a major gas field was discovered nearby and production stopped due to technological advances. In 1915, Pershing Lane was built as part of an effort by then-Mayor George Haggerty to attract businesses and residents to town center following World War I munitions plants opening up throughout Southern California at that time. The name derived from then-Captain Edward Moulton Haggerty (1868-1951), one of the original developers in town along with his brother Harvey Haggerty (1892-1964). Captain Haggerty had spearheaded development efforts for what would become Naval Air Station Miramar which opened up just north of town in 1923; both towns went through rapid growth during their early decades thanks largely to military presence and investment however they eventually lost touch with each other politically or economically after World War II ended US military involvement in the Pacific Rim while key portions of Encinitas became increasingly ruralized culminating with its incorporation as a unincorporated community within San Diego County effective January 3rd 1954.* "Encinitas" derives its name from Ohlone Chief Nuuhtaht'aluxa who called it "Yuma." In 1853, Encinitas was founded on the site of what is now known as Harbor Island. The town was named for General Friar Juan Crespí, who had composed a prayer for the bay area in 1797. The first post office opened in 1858. In 1916, the name of Encinitas was changed to Huntington Beach when it became part of Orange County. The first permanent residents were Spanish settlers who arrived in 1818 and began farming land near present-day Huntington Beach. By 1827 they had built a small rancho on current-day Harbor Island. The first vote to establish a town here took place on March 15, 1853. It resulted in the approval of an ordinance creatingEncinitas as a village with two streets and twenty-four dwellings. The first store open here was Mexican Land & House Store, which operated from 1865 until 1911. A school began operation in 1870; today it is known as San Bernardino High School. A mill started operations here in 1886; today it is known as Pacific Mills Incorporated (PMI). In 1915, Encinitas became part of Orange County when that county was formed from parts of Los Angeles and Ventura counties. At that time, Huntington Beach became its second largest city after Los Angeles and played an important role in local government and culture while also becoming home to many manufacturing jobs during World War II and afterward. With population growth rates averaging over 20 percent per decade between 1950 and 2000, Encinitas reached its peak population size at almost 80,000 by 1990 but has been declining steadily since then due to increasingly high crime rates and other social problems such as declining economic opportunities statewide.. In recent yearsencinitas has seen increasing development around its downtown core with new restaurants, bars and condos being constructed along 3rd Street Promenade; however much work remains to be done before this area can become more pedestrian friendly or attractive to tourists looking for a bit more excitement than just retail options

In 1917, the city annexed portions of Irvine to form a new municipality. On January 1, 2002, both cities were merged into one entity known as "Encinitas".
