Since the first navy deployments in World War II, Encinitas has been a destination for military personnel and their families. The city has become a hot spot for deployment activity as well, with Naval Air Station North Island ( NAS North Island) and Naval Surface Warfare Center Pacific ( NSWP PAC) located just outside the city limits. In 1968, NAS North Island was redesignated Naval Air Station Ventura County and became home to the nation's second Helicopter Maritime Strike Group (HSG), which was part of the Seventh Fleet. In 1998, NAS North Island was renamed Naval Air Station San Diego and again became home to HSG 9. Today, NAS San Diego is an important Navy facility that provides access to various airspace within California as well as neighboring states. It also hosts many different types of fixed-wing and rotary-wing aircraft used by both naval forces and air traffic controllers. Additionally, NAS San Diego is home to two helicopter squadrons; HSG 41 is responsible for providing helicopter support for land operations while HSG 52 provides rotor-craft service support for amphibious landing/dismantling missions. During World War II, Encinitas played host to Operation Torch which resulted in the liberation of Northwest Africa from Axis occupation by Allied forces. The Encinitas Naval Base is a naval base located in Encinitas, California. It was established on December 8, 1941 by the United States Navy. The site of the current Naval Base was chosen because it is bordered by the Pacific Ocean and is adjacent to County Park. In 1952, the Naval Air Station Miramar was transferred from San Diego to the Naval Base in order to provide more space for aircraft operations and hangar space for vessels. The first ship to be stationed at Miramar was USS Enterprise (CV-6) on October 1, 1951.
Encinitas is a city in San Luis Obispo County, California, United States. The population was 122,521 at the 2010 census. It is part of the San Luis Obispo–Atascadero Micropolitan Statistical Area. The area that includes Encinitas now was first settled by Native Americans in the late 18th century and early 19th century. It became a post town of Mendocino County on February 21, 1853. The name "Encinitas" comes from an event which took place on July 4, 1776 when Captain George Vancouver discovered and named the Strait of Juan de Fuca after his Encinitas mission; it had been called Echeverria since 1692. In 1881, Encinitas became part of the newly formed Santa Cruz County and thence part of San Luis Obispo City Limits until its secession from Santa Cruz County in 1912. In 1916, Encinitas annexed to Arroyo Grande Village which then annexed to Pismo Beach Township on November 3rd pursuant to an act approved by the California State Legislature known as "An Act annexing villages for local needs." On January 1st 1915 petitioner Wm Ladd submitted an application for annexation with Pismo Beach Township but no action occurred until December 11th when a petition was filed with the Board of Supervisors asking that Pismo Beach Township be included within Encinitas limits instead because there were insufficient homes for residents within Arroyo Grande Village boundaries and also because this would provide more services including water systems, fire protection systems, libraries etc., to residents in both villages combined than could be provided by either village alone. On February 5th 1915 a resolution approving annexation was passed by all members present atencitasinwaitricts BOARD OF SUPERVISORS (4-0) An additional petition for incorporation was filed on December 25th but again no action occurred until March 2nd 1916 when another petition requesting incorporation was submitted withthe BOARD OF SUPERVISORS but still no action occurred until May 6th 1916 when petitions were received for incorporation from both villages together as well as references to include Encinasi in articles discussing new townships being formed throughout central California due to high demand resulting from World War I & II . On June 14th 1916 an ordinancewas submittedtobeamovetothe governmentalregisterofresidentshipwiththeintenttoincorporatebothvillagesintogetherandprovideservicesacontributing theretowithoutfirst obtaininga vote fromtheResidents themselves.(ancestral records showthatPismoboroughwasfoundedbySpanish colonists during Ranchos de las Aguadas mission period.) After much deliberation itwas decided that both villages should be incorporated into one municipality under the name "EncinitAS". Incorporation proceedings began immediately on July 1st 1916 and ended on October 15th 2016 with Mayor Edwin Cisneros elected Mayor pro tem effective October 15TH 2016 following the resignation of Mayor Edwin Cisneros due to health reasons

Encinitas, California is a town located in San Luis Obispo County, California. The population was 26,868 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Santa Clara Valley. Encinitas was founded on December 12, 1853 by brothers Manuel and José Martínez de la Peña as an agricultural settlement on the west bank of the San Joaquin River near present-day Redwood City. On October 14, 1855, it became a organized town under Mexican rule with a name meaning "headstream." The first post office in Encinitas opened in 1856 and closed in 1862. The first school in Encinitas opened in 1857 and closed in 1861. The first telephone service was offered to Encinitas on November 1, 1860 with Wofford Telephone Company being the provider. The first electric light came into use at night on May 4, 1861 from Westinghouse Electric Corporation's new power plant across the river at Stockton. In 1863–1865 American soldiers fought an intermittent war against Mexico known as the Pueblo Revolt; however no towns were sacked or burned and there were few injuries due to skirmishes between American troops and Mexicans rather than open warfare like that taking place throughout much of California during this time period (except for Fort Yuma). In 1865 American General George Custer arrived at Atascadero Springs following his march from southern California through Tulare County looking for gold mines to find he discovered over two thousand miles of new mineral land including what would become Gold Country today but he decided not to pursue this platinum rich territory because he deemed it too difficult to extract without help from Mexico so instead he returned home after concluding his explorations within days of their occurrence when news reached him about what had happened south of Sacramento via horseback rider Juan Ortiz who had been spotted leading a group of horsemen all black hairless Indians northward towards Atascadero Springs.). A plaque marks where General Custer found his discovery later that year near Redding CA east side Of Mount Shasta In 1870 United States vitiated Treaty Between America And Mexico which resulted ranchers purchasing large areas northwest of Paso Robles began grazed by 200 head ranches now known as Kern County; while farmers established themselves southeast of Bakersfield increased production wheat became one crop produced here several times more then other local crops such as fruit trees & potatoes although water availability remained an issue until well into 20th century; citrus fruits becoming major export item beginning around 1920s farming developed dairy products here supplying farmed areas east & northeast along I-5 including Modesto before ending up with Humboldt Bay Area; oil production beginning around 1942 Ennis Oil Field started producing crude oil some 3 miles offshore just off shore from town center making Encinitas one stop along Interstate 5 during its early years.; Numerous businesses have come and gone since those early times most notably Apple Incorporated who moved their headquarters downtown starting in 1984 followed by Nike Incorporated who also moved their headquarters downtown beginning Pre-Kindergarten through high school starting circa 1990.)
