Encinitas is a city in Southern California, located on the Pacific Coast. It is home to the University of California, Irvine and is the largest city in Orange County. The population was 1,886 at the 2010 census. The town of Encinitas was founded by settlers in 1853 as Rancho Santa Margarita. On November 14, 1859, it became a municipality when it was annexed by Los Angeles. In 1912, Encinitas incorporated as a city under the name of Claremont. The first post office opened in Encinitas on December 3rd, 1857; it closed due to lack of mail resources in 1861. The first store opened at 5th and Main Streets on February 15th 1860; it closed due to financial problems in 1863. The first school started teaching in 1865 with Mrs Jane Atherton as teacher; it closed due to lack of money two years later. The City Council met for the first time on January 13th 1870 and voted unanimously to change its name to Claremont after Major General Arthur MacArthur who had just won an engagement against Mexico at San Jacinto near Claremont Springs In 1893, encinitas voters approved an amendment giving them their current name – Encinitas – when they used both “encino” and “californial” words side-by-side on election ballots without any punctuation between them (thus providing what is known today as "the goofball vote"). At that time only about 10% of Californians understood English so this vote may have been more about establishing English identity than anything else On July 16th 1906 Mayor John Haggerty dedicated Raymond Jaffe's new $1 million park which included tennis courts, baseball diamonds and a waterpark called Jet Pool On October 25th 1906 Mayor Haggerty dedicated Charlie Chaplin's new movie theater which featured six screens including one for Technicolor movies In 1916 Pershing Drive was renamed Spaulding Road after Captain Sidney Spaulding who served with distinction during World War I and later commanded American forces during World War II During World War II Japanese military forces burned down much of downtownEncinitas leaving behind only some ruins

The city had a population of 155,624 as of 2010. The history of Encinitas dates back over 100 years and goes back to 1846 when it was founded as Rancho Encinitas. Today’s Encinitas is a vibrant community that has experienced many changes over its history. In 1846, Rancho Encinitas was acquired by James Irvine who renamed it Los Angeles. In 1912, after his death, his son John Harker took control of the rancho again which led to another name change – Santa Clarita Valley Park District (SCVPD). In 1949 SCVPD became an independent city with its own government. On December 3rd of that year, Santa Clarita Valley Park District made History when it voted to add Encinitas into their City Limits! The first residents of Encinitas were Spanish settlers who arrived in 1836. Many more came during following years but most left before 1840 because of gold discoveries near Mono Lake. When California became a state in 1850, all land east of Los Angeles was included in Sacramento County while Alhambra and Pasadena were placed within Los Angeles County proper. After California achieved statehood in 1861, portions of Ventura and Orange Counties were annexed into Los Angeles County while part of Riverside County remained separate until 1920 when it too became part of California! In 1928-29 Santa Clarita Valley Park District completed construction on what would become known as “The Beach” which would provide recreational opportunities for locals and visitors alike for decades to come! As time passed new businesses cropped up including theaters (including one that still operates), restaurants, shops etcetera which along with increased traffic created problems for park staff who couldn’t keep up with demand! In 1966 City Manager Phillips decided that downtown should be torn down due in large part to parking problems caused by this increase in business activity! A campaign ensued resulting in citizens occupying City Hall until Mayor Strauss agreed to fund a study on how bestto improve downtown parking conditions! This study resulted in the planting of trees at various locations along Main Street which helped calm traffic issues once again! On July 1st 1971 Noosa Avenue opened between 26th Street & 28th Street providing an excellent view fromencino hills park across town Noosa Ave still remains one major artery through town today
The Encinitas Valley was a farming area in northwestern California. The region now includes the city of Encinitas, and parts of the Rancho San Diego areas. The valley was named for the Encinitas River, which flows through it. In 1851, Mission San Francisco de Asís was founded here, and many small rancheries were founded during the next few decades. In 1875, as part of efforts to improve water supplies for southern California, USGS surveyor Jethro Sullivant discovered an underground stream that would become the Pacific Ocean. This made Encinitas valuable property for farmers and ranchers who could irrigate their crops using this new water source. Encinitas became a town in 1907 when it was established at the junction of State Route 101 and Imperial Highway. In 1916 it joined with other towns in what is now Orange County to form the City of Irvine. The population of Encinitas peaked at around 45,000 in 1940 but declined over the next few decades as residents moved away for jobs in nearby Los Angeles or Orange County. However, by 1970 its population had increased to about 70,000 due to growth in nearby Riverside and Anaheim counties as well as waves of immigrants from East Asia and Latin America who came to work on agricultural land near Los Angeles or Orange County
