Together they continued running La Casa until 1993 when she sold it back to Jorge Bañuelos y Pacheco (qv). From 1993-1996, Don Fernando Gomez ran the company as an independent business before purchasing it back from Jorge Bañuelos y Pacheco (qv) in 1998. Under Fernando Gomez's ownership, La Casa de la Oroja became a member of The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf Group Incorporated (CBE&T) which is based out of Seattle, Washington. CBE&T provides all retail customers with fresh roasted coffees direct from their roasters located throughout America including Escondido, California Today, José Antonio Abadía's legacy continues through SCA Coffee which has been part of CBE&T since 1998. The city experienced a resurgence in population during the 1990s and 2000s due to new development along the coast and growth in employment center within the local tech industry. Escondido is located on an east-west coastal plain that has been home to Native American, Spanish, Mexican, Anglo, and Japanese populations for centuries. In 1853, Father Crespo named this part of San Diego County after his friend Father Francisco José de Alcalá y Gasset who had moved from Mexico City two years earlier. Mission San Diego de Asís was founded in 1769 by mission fathers Manuel Nieto and Pedro Ruiz. The area now known as Escondido became part of Rancho Santa Margarita in 1851 when Miguel Olvera purchased some land here from Juan Bautista Alvarado. In 1853, the town of Escondido was chartered by Governor Pico under the name Fillmoreville while still under Mexican rule. East of present day downtown Escondido was laid out as well with wide streets running perpendicular to each other near what is now Playa del Carmen Boulevard; these streets were an early version of today's arterial highways system that served much of inland Southern California at that time including parts of Orange County and Riverside County Today’s business district developed around this busy commercial artery which also led to today’s large number of high-end homes built along both coasts Walkable neighborhoods such as Midtown/Old Town arose where there wasn't enough commercial development or transportation access available so people lived close together instead of driving long distances for shopping or entertainment purposes until either times got better or someone built a freeway system which took away all those walkable neighborhoods
