Escondido is a city in San Diego County, California, United States. The population was 21,775 at the 2010 census. It is the second most populous city in San Diego County after City of San Diego. The first Europeans to visit Escondido were land grantees from Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo's expedition on November 2, 1769. On December 5, 1770, Gaspar de Portolà and Sebastián Vizcaíno sailed past Point Conception on their way to explore Santa Barbara Harbor. They named the harbor "Los Padres" (the Fathers). In 1821, José Joaquín Cámpora sold 640 acres (2 km²) of land at Rancho Rinconada for $60 an acre to Mariano Castro and his brother-in-law Manuel Nieto. This area became known as Parque Nacional del Encanto or National Park of Enchantment. The name Escondido was given by Captain John Sutter during his visit on July 25, 1824 while he led an exploring party from Mission Concepción down the coast to Carlsbad Pass. In 1875–76 Pierre Teisseur built a two-story wooden schoolhouse in what is now downtownEscondido which served as the town hall until 1906 when it burned down during a stormy night. A new building was erected in its place and served as the municipal courthouse until 1984 when it also burned down during a stormy night; this building still stands vacant today but is used for storage purposes only because of its Historic Preservation status with the City of Escondidos Historic Resources Department. On October 15, 1886 by order of Governor Hiram Bingham Jr., all Mexican citizens living within Jurisdiction No.(now bounded by I-5 eastbound and PCH northbound) south of latitude 39° 30′ N were ordered to leave without paying their entry fees into that jurisdiction or suffer deportation proceedings which would have resulted in their forcible removal from this state without due process rights under US law at that time; this order remain effective to this day and continues to be enforced through immigration enforcement activities run by Enforcement Services Division employees who are specifically authorized thereto pursuant to section 602(a) of Title 8 US Code Sections 1152 et seq.. It should be noted that there had been sporadic immigration violations throughout much of northern California prior both historically and contemporaneously with similar events taking place along southern border communities such as Mexicali – all Border Patrol activity prior occurred outside Jurisdiction No.(now bounded by I-5 eastbound and PCH northbound), so no deportations took place here either direct or indirect legalwise...
