The United States Army gift history can be traced back to 1841 when the California Regiment of Infantry was organized at Fort Yuma. The regiment would serve in various engagements throughout the Mexican-American War and soon after, was redesignated as the 3rd Infantry Regiment in 1853. In 1898, following World War I, the regiment became part of the National Guard and participated in several campaigns including Santa Clara Battle of Camp Buenaventura. After World War II, many organizations were created within subordinate commands within the army such as Airborne Forces (1946), armor brigades (1948), artillery brigades (1949), Special Troops Command (1966) and Reserve Component Commands (1976). It was through this process that Fairfield's 3rd Infantry Regiment evolved into today's 2nd Battalion/5th Marines which is garrisoned at Marine Corps Base Quantico. Today’s 2nd Battalion/5th Marines is one of a small number of infantry units currently stationed outside of America which have been brought together to offer unique military experience to US servicemen and women around the world. This battalion has also been selected for its ability to rapidly deploy overseas with a minimal footprint and respond quickly to theater events or emergencies. Fairfield, California is a small town in Kern County, California. The population was 8,591 at the 2010 census. It is part of the San Joaquin Valley region. The town was founded in 1881 by George Fairchild and his family. A post office called Fairfield had been established in 1875, but no mail arrived until 1880. In 1955, another school for east side residents (Homeschooling) was opened on Elm Street within walking distance of Green Acres Elementary School which continues to serve students from that area today; both schools are currently being used as administrative offices for Animal Services Department. In 1990, a Wastewater Treatment Plant expansion project became necessary due to increasing water usage from agriculture and other businesses in the town while also providing more drinking water for customers in neighboring towns such as Kern City and Oakhurst during times of drought conditions; this project included construction of four new treatment plants along with enlargement of two existing plants making it one of the largest wastewater treatment projects ever undertaken in Kern County.

Fairfield is a small city in the San Joaquin Valley of California, United States. The population was 9,521 at the 2010 census. It is located on the banks of the Sacramento River and forms part of the Central Valley region. The name "Fairfield" was given to it by fur traders in 1847 when they called it Hoffman's Ferry because of the many fairs that took place there. The first permanent settler in Fairfield was John C. Fremont in 1843. He built a cabin near what is now downtown Fairfield and named his new town after himself, which he thought would bring more prosperity to his settlement than if he called it Hoffman's Ferry. By 1850, about 100 people lived in Fairfield, most of them farmers or workers on local gold mines and ranches. The area around Fairfield became known as "the Agricultural Belt" for its abundance of fertile soil and good water resources. In 1851, James Fenton bought 10 acres (4 hectares) along the Sacramento River from Thomas Hartnell for $300. Fenton founded Fentonville to serve as a wagon road between Stockton and Concordia (now Fresno). In 1857, he donated land to build an Academy at Fairfield west of present-day downtown Fairfield so that boys and girls could receive an education beyond that available to them in their own communities back then. During World War II, Fairfield served as headquarters for American Troops stationed in Northern California during 1942-1945; all troops were housed within two miles (3 km) of town center while they underwent basic training at Camp Goodwin outside of town limits before being sent home across the river into Contra Costa County where they eventually settled down anew after liberation from Japan On July 15th 1945 General MacArthur laid claim to all remaining Japanese property east of Yosemite National Park following Operation Coronet which ended hostilities against Japan throughout much of North America
