Fairfield, California is the most populous city in San Bernardino County and the county seat of Riverside. The population was estimated to be over 200,000 in 2015. The city's origins date back to 1849 when gold was discovered near Fairfield. At that time, the town of Fairfield lay within what is now Riverside County. A post office called Fairfield was established in 1852, and by 1865, it had become a consolidated community with a self-governing government. In 1907, the name of the town changed to Riverside because of its location on both sides of the river (Riverside on one side and Fairfield on the other). In 1929, after years of growth and development – fueled largely by oil exploration – Riverside became an incorporated city with boundaries that coincided with those of San Bernardino County. The coffee industry has been a major factor in FAIRFIELD's growth and prosperity over the years. Coffee production began in earnest here in 1902 when three growers opened their own roasters: John Burroughs’ Roastery & Coffee Shop (now Black & Veatch), Harry Kapp’s Caffé Italiano Company (later known as Kapp Bros.), and Franklin Dyer’s Java House Coffee Co.. After World War II, expanding demand for coffee led to increased production; todayFAIRFIELD produces more than two million pounds of beans per year for local consumption as well as export to many countries aroundthe world. The first coffee was roasted by a man named Mesch in 1795. It was difficult and time-consuming to source quality beans and make your own espresso. In order to take advantage of the new transportation methods available during the late 1800s, some farmers started roasting their beans in large mills on the banks of the Susquehanna River. As these mills became more prevalent and reliable, they allowed small farmers to sell their coffee directly to consumers instead of through grocery stores or distributors. By 1901, over one hundred different types of coffee were being sold in Philadelphia alone! During prohibition in 1920-1925, some Starbucks locations served alcohol but all other locations avoided it because it violated state law. This is probably why so few Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf (CB&TE) locations are still open today; most decided that Prohibition was too costly and harmful compared to providing excellent customer service without any liquor sales. After prohibition ended in 1933, coffee became an evergreen commodity again with prices stable between $1 and $2 per pound across all grades. With advancements in technology and better processing techniques during World War II (which led to greater production), coffee reached its peak production levels by 1970 before declining precipitously due to environmental concerns and increasing competition from other agricultural products such as corn and soybeans

In 1847, the California Gold Rush began and Fairfield was one of the most active towns in the area. In just a few years, it had become one of the largest gold mining towns in America. By 1850, Fairfield had over 1,000 residents and was an important commercial center for the region. During its early years, Fairfield was known as a thriving town that would continue to grow under new leadership. By 1860, however, things were changing in Fairfield. A group of men led by James Wolkettquist had taken control of the town and were intent on making it into a remote goldmining outpost. The new leadership did not care about their citizens or their businesses; instead they focused on creating an exclusive community where only those with wealthy connections could live. This led to problems for both locals and visitors alike. Despite these difficulties,Fairfield continued to thrive over time and quickly became one of California's most important cities. In 1870, it became the capital of what is now Kern County; and during its growth period, Fairfield attracted many talented individuals to its cityscape - including some who would go on to make significant contributions to American society such as William Randolph Hearst and Charles Evans Hughes.
Fairs were held in Fairfield on various occasions throughout its history. The first Fair was held in 1851, and the last was in 1976.
