Fairfield is a city in the San Joaquin Valley of California, United States. It was founded in 1853 by Captain Fairfield Hutton and his family. The population was 26,898 at the 2010 census. The name "Fairsville" was given to the community by its first postmaster, Nathaniel Lyon. The history of Fairfield can be traced back to 1853 when Captain Fairfield Hutton and his family settled in what is now Fairfield on a farmstead they had acquired from Manuel Nieto. From here, they began developing the area into a small town with their own mills and stores. In 1876, they voted to change their name to Fairfield after purchasing an estate east of Fresno called Farmington Hills. In 1907, Mayor George Wickersham convinced the city council to adopt a new City Charter which limited voting rights for African Americans until two-thirds of all residents were black (this requirement was later lifted). This led to the growth of black businesses and homes in downtown Fairfield while white businesses closed or moved out as part of gentrification processes that swept across much of Northern California during this time period. In 1938, following World War II’s ending, General John Jumper arrived in town from Redding as head of U.S Forces Western Pacific Command and quickly put together plans for postwar reconstruction in California . He recommended that cities such as Redding and Stockton get ready for huge surges in population due to growing needs for housing, jobs, transportation and other services associated with wartime boomtowns like Berkeley and San Francisco . With Jumper’s encouragement – along with local donations from citizens – both Redding and Stockton quickly became “urbans” again during these years; effectively becoming satellite towns around larger cities within their respective Marengo County communities while still retaining some degree of separate governance. It wasn’t until 1979 that Salt Lake City , Utah gained municipal status just north of Fresno County line; subsequently causing many longtime residents who had grown up living near General Motors headquarters south Fremont Street between Union Square & Main Street (now East Broadway) to relocate en masse - many taking advantage of government sponsored relocation programs which gave them grants+housing vouchers equal to those received by people moving into newer neighbourhoods inside Greater Sacramento County . As these transplanted individuals continued arriving over subsequent decades ++ culminating with 2000 Census results showing almost 60% Hispanic heritage among current residents ++ it seems safe TO say that there has never been anything quite like it before or since when so many people have relocated + jammed together under one roof on several different continents over nearly 150 years!

The first Europeans to arrive in what is now Fairfield were Mormon missionaries who founded a small town called Fillmore on the banks of the Sacramento River. In 1852, Gold Rush miners discovered gold and soon enough, Fillmore became a boomtown with lots of businesses and people. By 1857, Fillmore had becomeFairfield County. In 1861, during the American Civil War, General John C. Fremont proposed that California be divided into two parts – one for Unionists and one for Confederates – based on economic reasons. As a result, much of what is now Fairfield was part of Confederate territory which was taken over by Union forces. Many people from Fillmore moved west to join the Union army while others stayed behind to help run the county government. In 1915, construction began on the new fairgrounds which would serve as home to many events throughout its years including rodeos, agricultural shows, circuses and other cultural performances. The fairgrounds remain an important part of Fairfield’s history to this day and are currently used as housing units by local residents
