The Coast Guard manned the Farmersville coast guard station from 1927 until its closure in 1975. The Coast Guard stationed a detachment at the Farmersville station for use as a law enforcement officer during World War II. At first, the Coast Guard only used the detachment for law enforcement purposes and did not maintain it as a station. In 1967, the Coast Guard decided to keep the detachment operational as a station and began providing services such as security, litter removal, and fish & game viewing. In 1975, the Station closed due to budget cuts by then Governor Jerry Brown. However, in 1979, Congress passed legislation authorizing funds to be appropriated to keep the coast guard station open until 1984. The Governors of California and Nevada then each approved appropriations totaling $5 million which kept the coast guard station open until 1987 when it was closed again due to budgetary constraints. Today, there is still a detachment assigned at this coast guardstation that provides law enforcement services and also helps clean up local beaches.

Farming in Farmersville has been going on for over 300 years. The first farmers in the area were William and Mary Kirk who settled in what is now Farmersville in 1824. They started a small farm and raised chickens, pigs, and horses. By 1830, the Kirk family had developed a large cornfield that they continued to grow until their death in 1871. Other early settlers included Isaac Lowry who arrived around 1827 and built a log cabin on the edge of what is now town square. A post office was established at Farmersville in 1850, and growth continued until the incorporation of town bylaws in 1902.
