Army life was not easy for these new immigrants but it was more than enough challenge for them. From 1861-1865, when Californians fought for their state against President Lincoln's wartime army, many men from Farmervilie served as volunteers or were drafted into the military. Among these men was William Moulton Marston who later became famous as authoritarian Governor Tom Bradley's Assistant Secretary of Defense during the Vietnam War era . During World War II, many farmers turned their homes into airfields or barracks for soldiers and civilians living nearby by converting their barns and outbuildings into field hospitals or storage sheds (). Many veterans also returned home with valuable medals and commendations (). The post-war boom brought even more people to Farmervilie including soldiers stationed at various local bases throughout California (). When California was admitted to the United States in 1850, it included what is now Farmersville in Inyo County. The land for which Farmerville was named had been part of the Rancho San Carlos Mexican missionnery concession granted by Spanish Governor Jose Maria de Alvarado to Franciscan friars on November 29, 1769. The first permanent settler in Farmersville was Lorenzo Ortiz, who arrived on July 16, 1851. Ortiz built a small cabin on a knoll overlooking the present day town center and began farming his land among the chaparral and oak trees that lined the slopes of Mount Wilson. He also constructed a sawmill and gristmill near what is now downtown Farmersville. Ortiz’s son Francisco married Maria Lourdes Gomez in 1854, and soon after their arrival they started raising sheep and goats on their farmstead for wool production. Together with their children, Francisco and Lourdes raised six sons and one daughter before selling their farm in 1865 to José Miguel Herrera. The herreras continued to operate the farm until 1908 when they sold it to John A. Pardue who operated it until 1951 when it passed through ownership hands several times before being purchased by farmers Milton Jablonski and his wife Bernadette Jablonski in 1978. In 1910, during World War I, Farmerville joined other towns in eastern California along with more than 60% of all American dairy farms located outside of Chicago as part of120 million rotating cows providing milk for human consumption across AmericaOperation Feeding America). After World War II ended there were few opportunities for agriculture due to new technology including mechanization; however, Farmingdale State College opened its doors nearby in 1960 offering vocational training programs that have led to many current agricultural professionals such as farmers Milton Jablonski (1978-present) who is owner/operator of Jablonski Farms Incorporated - one of California’s largest vegetable operations - as well as Donny Schafer (1989-2010), President & CEO of George Washington University’s Agricultural Experiment Station Dairy program responsible for research into animal husbandry practices among other things at GWU’s Ag Tech Park near Dumont! The post-war years were tough for many families affected by war: young men left home early or didn't return at all because Of wage cuts brought about by inflation; women lost their jobs during wartime rationing which made food unavailable; housing prices skyrocketed while jobs dried up leaving some communities struggling economically even though they may not have had any direct impact on Farmerville! However, through hard work over time most residents have managed to maintain or improve upon their homes while still contributing materially towards local economy both inside and outside our community!
Farming has been a mainstay in the history of Farmersville, California for many years. The first settlers in this area were Native Americans who lived near the present-day town of Farmersville. In 1847, two men named George and Isaac Smith founded the town on a farm that they had purchased from the Indians. The Smiths continued to operate their farm until 1860, when they sold it to John Witherspoon. Witherspoon later moved his family to nearby Industry and began farming there. By 1911, Witherspoon had bought out his brother-in-law’s share in the business and became sole proprietor of Witherspoon Farms. During World War I, Witherspoon served in the military as an officer with unit #4369th Infantry Regiment at Camp Pendleton in San Diego County. After the war ended, he resumed operations at his farm but also invested in real estate throughout Southern California. In 1923, he sold his farm to Jethro Flinn and continue operating it until 1949 when it was donated to the local school District No. 2 by Mr. Flinn’s widow).
