He became known as an early rancher androgynous because he had no malevolent intent when he started out; rather, he simply wanted to provide a good life for his livestock and himself. For many years, Farmersville remained a small town with only a handful of residents. However, over time it grew into what is now one of Northern California’s most populous towns with around 90 businesses and approximately 14000 residents. The town began as a small community near today’s Highway 20 and Interstate 80/US 101 junction where farmers could sell their produce door-to-door or bring it into town on wagons drawn by horses or mules. The first store opened in1857 and soon there were several others located throughout the town center including stores run by myrtle brothers William & Samuel enterprises (owned by George Hearn) which served as banks; Odd Fellows Lodge No 1 (founded 1865), Masonic Hall (opened October 12th 1870), Presbyterian Church (1897), Blacksmith Shop (opened 1876), Mrs Cunningham's Bakery & Refreshment Room (1901). In 1907 local dentist J C Cunningham opened his dental office at 7 Main Street where he continued until his death in 1978. In 1929 local oilman Harry Pritchett built him own house at 536 Main Street which remains standing today as one of history's most notable structures in Farmersville
The town of Farmersville was founded in 1848 by Levi Coffin and his family. The town grew up around the Mid- Pacific Railroad, which ran through the town. Farmersville became a small community with its own school, church, post office and store. The Mid-Pacific Railroad stopped running in 1975, but the town still has many of its original buildings and residents are still able to use the railroad tracks as part of their everyday lives.
