Farmersville is a small, unincorporated community located in Kern County, California. It is located on the east side of the Kern River and is bounded by San Joaquin Valley to the north, Nevada County to the south, and Yuba County to the west. The population of Farmersville was 1,542 at the 2010 census. The first settlers in Farmersville were James French and his wife Catherine who landed on July 26th 1859 with their five children and two dogs. The land they purchased was just across from what is now Midland Drive. James French became one of the original farmers in this area which included present day Midland Drive, Elysian Fields Road, Canadian Gulch Road and parts of today’s Eastside Boulevard. The first post office in Farmersville was established on February 14th 1862. It was named for John Atherton who served as Postmaster at that time. Mr. Atherton donated $1 per month towards building a post office which would serve all residents in this area until it was discontinued on October 1st 1907 whenMrsGrace Addison reopened it with her own money after being widowed for many years due to poverty stricken family life back home in Kentucky . Mrs Addison had been an early settler hereabouts along with her husband Hiram Addison who also founded Midland Ranching Company later merged into Brown & Williamson Tobacco company As time passed more people arrived here including Willard Baker who built his house near what is now Midland Drive back in 1875 Wormald Ladd from Idaho came overlanders looking for new land he called “Farmersvilletown” next door he founded Ladd Rent House where many families lived during those early days before subdivisions started happening throughout Kern county starting around 1870 Peters Machine tool company moved up river from Downey CA about 1865 started making tools there then moved out to High Plains about 1870 or so became known as Singer Machines
