By 1880, over 100 farmers had joined them to build a cotton gin on South Second Street near present day Broadway Boulevard. This cotton gin became one of the largest employers in Farmersville with 300 workers during its heyday until it closed its doors in 1958 due to declining production and competition from other Cotton Ginners throughout Kern County In 1906, two men named Harry Kapp and Roy Eller bought a farm south of town off State Highway 20 about six miles west of where I-5 ends today.
