The USAF deployed a gift to Fillmore residents in the form of an air force base. The deployment was in memory of former Mayor, Steve Atkins and it was meant as a way to show support for the community. The gift consisted of three planes and twelve sets of wings which were brought in by military personnel. The planes were parked at the Fillmore Municipal Airport and local businesses donated their time to fly them around town. Mayor Atkins spoke about the deployment during its unveiling ceremony. He said that it was something that he was very proud of and that it showed how much support the community had for the USAF. He added that he knew that thecommunity would be grateful for the gift and hoped that it would help create more jobs in the area.

In 1941, the USAF became an independent branch and was redesignated as the United States Air Forces in Europe (USAFE). The first air force deployment of a gift history in Fillmore, California took place on December 7, 1944. The United States Air Force deployed the AEF-3A Stratofortress to Fillmore as part ofOperation Santa Ana. The gift history was conducted by Colonel Fountain and Lt. Commander Beecham with the help of Mrs. Beecham and the children from Academy High School in Fillmore. The Stratofortress was delivered to Fillmore by Boeing 747 Aircraft on December 7th, 1944. It arrived at the airport after being transported via road convoy and train ride from Wichita, Kansas to San Bernardino County, California. Upon arrival at the airport, all personnel including pilots and passengers disembarked from the aircraft and walked off into town for a festive parade down Main Street which culminated with a Christmas dinner at Academy High School where students helped serve as waiters/waitresses/.
Fillmore was founded in 1894 by John Fillmore, a gold prospector and entrepreneur. The town quickly became a center of the California Gold Rush and Fillmore quickly became one of the most important mining towns in the area. In 1903, Fillmore was renamed after President Franklin D. Roosevelt to commemorate his visit to the area two years earlier. By 1923, Fillmore had become an influential city with a thriving economy and growing population. In 1951, Fillmore was annexed by San Francisco and its residents were given choice of either becoming part of San Francisco or moving to the new city. However, many chose to stay in their original town and continue to live there until today. Today, Fillmore is known for its beautiful architecture and charming demographics which make it an attractive place to call home.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the first air force deployment package ever sent to an American combatant nation—the USS Enterprise (CVN 73) during World War II. The Enterprise was part of the US Pacific Fleet and arrived at Long Beach, California on December 7, 1941. The shipment contained a variety of military supplies, including food, clothing and ammunition. Since then, gift packages have become an integral part of USAF culture and tradition. In 2013 alone, gifts were sent to servicemen and women from every country participating in Operation Inherent Resolve—a NATO mission aimed at stopping ISIS militants from expanding their Terrorist network across Syria and Iraq. As part of this effort, each member state contributed something unique or fun for America’s Armed Forces personnel abroad. A recent example is the Gift Hacks program presented by General Electric Company (GEC). This innovative initiative allows employees throughout GEC’s corporate networks to give back by providing special gifts for military individuals or organizations they support on holiday season dates throughout 2015. So far this year GEC employees have donated more than $2 million in unique gifts!

Fillmore was founded in 1847 by John Fillmore and his wife, Susannah. The town was named for General James K. Polk who had been the 28th President of the United States at the time of its founding. In 1850, Fillmore became incorporated as a city and began to grow rapidly. By 1860, it had a population of 10,000 people and was considered one of California's most important cities. In 1868, Fillmore came into conflict with ambitious Mayor Samuel Sutter over plans to build a new railroad through town. This led to a series of skirmishes between the two groups that further escalated when Sutter attempted to take control of Fillmore's finances. Ultimately, both sides were able to agree on terms that allowed for construction of the railroad but resulted in much bloodshed and economic decline for Fillmore. In 1872, after years of growth and development, Fillmore lost its status as an important city when it was merged with nearby San Francisco. However, it continued to serve as an important center for trade and industry until the late 19th century when it fell victim to rapid change in California which caused its decline. Today, only a few remaining buildings from early 19th century life remain in downtownFillMORE
Fillmore was founded in 1851 by John Fillmore and his wife, Nancie. The Fillmores were the first white people to settle in what is now California. They named their new town after themselves, Fillmore County, California. In 1870, they built a cabin on the edge of what is now Fremont and sold it to Nathaniel Hawthorne for $1,000.
