In Fillmore, California, the air force has a long history of providing gifts to residents and businesses. The gift-giving tradition began in 1941 when the army created an airbase here. In 1946, the navy bought the land and started building ships. The first jets were manufactured at this base in 1948. The city of Fillmore was founded in 1949 and became a suburb of San Francisco. In 1957, the Fillmore Air Show was held here. From 1951 to 1958, the United States Coast Guard used this airbase for trials of new warships. In 1969, it was decided that an airfield would be built onetime military property adjacent to town center in order to provide more space for planes and equipment. This new airstrip became known asFillmore Airport after its location within town limits. It served as home to both commercial airlines and the USAF until 1975 when it became part of FAA jurisdiction metropolitan area called Silicon Valley – becoming one of four airports serving that region along with San Jose (SJC), Mountain View (MVN), Emeryville (EEV). In 1978–79, General Electric donated two C-123 Flying Fortress aircrafts to fill a need for spacious cargo areas on USAF aircraft carriers stationed around the world At present these planes are parked at Morro Bay Naval Air Station outside Laguna Beach Calif., being used by Naval Sea Cadets program during summer months when NAS Morro Bay is closed due to bad weather conditions

In 1971, the Fillmore Auditorium became the home of the Grateful Dead. The Dead played their last show at the Fillmore Auditorium on April 9, 1995.
Fillmore, California is a town located in San Joaquin County, California. The population was 20,912 at the 2010 census. As of the 2000 census, there were 21,098 people and 10,613 households residing in the town. The racial makeup of Fillmore was 96% white and 2% black. Hispanic or Latino individuals made up 1% of the population. Fillmore started as a small farming community established by Mormon pioneers in 1851. In 1865 it became an independent city under the jurisdiction of Fresno County. The first mayor was Fenton Copley Hilliard and Fillmore's first sheriff was Prentice Meeks. In 1870 Fillmore incorporated as a town with a resident council consisting of twenty-one members elected from single districts; these boundaries changed again in 1875 when Fresno County acquired additional land to form its present county line

The USAF was established on July 1, 1948 as a merger of the American Volunteer Aviation League (AVL), which had been founded in 1917, and the Continental Air Forces. It has served as a major player in many conflicts throughout history, most notably in World War II and Vietnam. Today, USAF provides airpower for both national security purposes and peacekeeping missions around the world. Its aircraft are used to conduct surveillance, reconnaissance, bombing raids, intercepting enemy radio traffic and providing ground support to coalition forces during operations such as Operation Inherent Resolve or Operation Neptune’s Spear. Additionally, it maintains an airborne warning and control system that can track more than 60% of global airspace.

Fillmore was a small town in California before the Gold Rush. It was first settled in 1851 by Mormons who had come from Fillmore, Utah. The name Fillmore comes from Fillmore Creek which flows through the town. The first store in Fillmore was built on Main Street in 1851. The business closed in 1865, but reopened as the Fillmore Hotel in 1870. In 1875, the hotel burned down and was replaced by a new building that still stands today. In 1898, Fillmore became an incorporated city with a population of about 100 people. It experienced rapid growth during the 20th century and reached its peak population of almost 1,000 people in 1950. However, since then it has been declining gradually to around 600 people today. The local economy is based primarily on agriculture and tourism; both are important aspects of community life. fillMORE is home to several historical landmarks including: the Masonic Temple (built 1889), John Fenton's Store (1861), Grayscale Opera House (1927-2007), Enterprise Theater (1929) andFillmore High School (1994-present).
Fillmore was founded in 1848 by General James Fillmore as a stop on the California Gold Rush. The town quickly grew, becoming an important military and commercial center during the gold rush. In 1864, Fillmore was named capital of California after it became part of the United States.
