Fillmore was founded in 1851 by Brigham Young and his brother, John. The town was named after Fillmore, California. It became a Mormon settlement located on the San Joaquin River north of Sacramento. In 1857, Fillmore seceded from the LDS church and became an independent republic. The following year, it joined the United States as a result of the Mexican-American War. In 1862, Fillmore changed its name to Sacramento to better reflect its location in Northern California away from San Francisco. In 1870, Fillmore incorporated as a city and began growth that has continued to this day. As Northern California’s largest city with over 100,000 residents, it is also one of the most diverse cities in America with people from all over the world living here. Today, Fillmore is known for its arts and culture program which features events such as opera performances and jazz concerts throughout the year. It also has a variety of businesses including restaurants and nightlife options that make it easy to get around town without having to worry about parking or traffic congestion.

Fillmore is a small town and census-designated place in San Joaquin County, California, United States. It lies east of Stockton on the north side of the Sacramento River. As of the 2010 census, its population was 5,651. Fillmore was founded by squatters from central California in 1847 as a landing for rafts of new miners who were prospecting for gold near what is now Fresno. The name Fillmore comes from two early settlers, John Fillmore and James Fenton. The first post office at Fillmore was established in 1848. In 1860, Fillmore became part of the newly created San Joaquin County; it remained so until it was merged into Stanislaus County in 1995. In 1870, an unsuccessful attempt to build a railway through Fillmore resulted in a large push to develop the area as agricultural land around central Valley towns such as Madera and Salinas grew prosperous with increased production from nearby mines and wineries. This led to incorporation of fillMORE into what is today Stanislaus County on February 1, 1895 following approval by voters at a special election held that same day (the first countywide referendum in California). Fillmore has experienced various waves of population growth throughout its history: during World War II it grew rapidly due to military recruitment; during the late 1960s through the 1970s it experienced an influx of hippies who used its public transportation system; since 1990 it has been slowly increasing in population again due to suburban encroachment on farmland east of town and development along Interstate 80 within walking distance
Fillmore was founded in 1851 by Dr. George Fillmore and his wife, Lucy. The town was named after General John A. Fillmore, who helped to drive Mexican forces out of California during the Santa Clara War. The fillmore Hotel, which still stands today, was built in 1868 and is the first hotel in Fillmore. In 1901, a branch of the United States Postal Service was established in Fillmore and it remains one of the largest USPS postal services offices in Northern California.
