The recruitment of the navy in 1851 was an important event for the Fillmore community. The Fillmore Naval Air Station, located on the eastern edge of town, played an important role in naval aviation during World War II. Today, the station is home to Marine Corps Air Station Miramar and offers a variety of activities for Naval aviators and their families. The navy's deployment history in Fillmore begins with its establishment as a military post on August 3, 1851. As early as 1850, there had been talk of establishing a naval air station in Fillmore because it was a strategically located town on San Joaquin River Delta that offered plenty of airspace for warships to fly operations. In November 1850, Captain John Hargrave leased from Judah Pemberton three acres at what is now Fourth Street and Mission Avenue for $2 per year with plans to build a small fortification to protect his new station. Hargrave quickly realized that he needed more space than he could find at his previous location so he purchased additional land from Pemberton and began construction on what would become Navy Station Fillmore. The first building erected on the site was the Post Office which served as headquarters for military operations at Navy Station Fillmore. This structure still stands today; it is currently used as office space by Naval Aviation Command (NAVY ACC). It should be noted that until 1852, there were no civilian residents living within Naval Station FillMORE limits so all civilian functions at Navy Station were conducted through military channels only! Navy Headquarters moved into their new facility on December 4th after being constructed over two months by local volunteers under command of Commodore George Fenton RN (1811-1892) who had also been appointed Commander-in-Chief California Squadron during William Polk's term as Presidente de facto government of Mexico City! Fenton supervised construction while Captain John Hargrave led daily aerial reconnaissance flights across the San Joaquin Valley looking for any potential sites suitable for an airfield or naval base! Unfortunately due to political instability in Mexico City following Mexican Independence from Spain in 1821, no definitive decisions were made about where or when Naval Air Station FillMORE would be established and finally opened its doors to civilians on August 3rd, 1852! It should be noted that even though NAVY AIR STATION FILLMORE WAS OPEN TO CIVILIAN CLIENTS FROM AUGUST 2ND OF 1852 THROUGH DECEMBER 4TH OF 1850!!! THIS DOESNT MEAN THAT THE NAVY DID NOT USE THEIR OWN AIR FORCE TO TRANSPORT OFFICIALs AND TEST DRONES TO AND FROM FILLMORE AS WELL!!!! just like every other military post around these days... everyone got along great until someone decided they didn't want us here

The USS Constitution (1802-1809) was a United States Navy ship. She served in the War of 1812, and as a flagship during the Mexican–American War. She was decommissioned on 5 October 1836, and sold to A. P. Butler on 12 October 1840. The ship was wrecked off the coast of California in 1865, and she was salvaged and used for ferry service until 1912.
Fillmore is a small town in Alameda County, California. The population was 771 at the 2010 census. It is located on the east side of San Francisco Bay and southeast of Oakland, within the city limits. Fillmore was founded in 1853 by Captain John Sutter as a fur- trading post on Hetch Hetchy Creek. In 1862, Fillmore became part of the newly created Mayaca District, within the new City of San Francisco. In 1872, Fillmore merged with neighboring towns of Pittsburg and Fremont to form what is now known as downtown Fillmore. On July 17, 1898 – one year after California achieved statehood – Fillmore's first school opened with thirty students following approval by the Board of Education. The school closed in 1903 due to lack of enrollment and financial difficulties. In 1906, Foothill Boulevard was built through downtown Fillmore between Fourth and Fifth Streets (now Geary Street). This made it possible for people from all over Northern California to live and work in downtown FillMORE during its heyday as an industrial center. The Boulevard also led to increased development around present day Church Avenue and State Street because this area had been used for grazing land by local farmers since before Spanish occupation in 1777. In 1912–13, when fill more developed near Parkmerced Cemetery (), there were proposals to move the cemetery out intofill because it violated city ordinances against burying dead animals outside city limits (). However, pressure from residents ledtothe decision instead to move the cemetery into a new building which would be constructed on properties east of Market Street (). The first white settlement in Fillmore, California was on Rancho San Antonio de la Bahia in 1853. The town was named after General Mariano Vásquez de Corrales, who had given the land to the government for cattle ranching. In 1860, Fillmore became part of Nevada and by 1870 it had become an independent municipality. The following year, Fillmore incorporated as a city and within two years had a population of 25 residents. In 1872, Fillmore was platted as a town site by James W. Richardson and planted with cottonwood trees to provide lumber for construction projects in nearby towns such as Reno and Carson City. By 1880, Fillmore's population had increased to 100 people and it began to grow rapidly due to its location at the crossroads of several trails connecting eastern Nevada with western California. In 1890, the fillMORE municipal government merged with the larger town of Reno to form one unified municipality known today as Metro Reno. In 1916, when Nevada lost its statehood status and became an American state,Fillmore reverted back to its original name of "Fillmore." In 1940, when Metro Reno amalgamated with other local governments including Sparks (which then became Carson City) Fills more than doubled in size again becoming what is now called "Metro Fills" because much of what once made up Fillmore has been annexed into Carson City proper since then.
