In 1848, Brigham Young led his Latter Day Saints to this area after they were expelled from Nauvoo, Illinois. In 1871–72 Averell Harriman donated land to build what would become Pacific Telephone Company's first radio station at 7th and I Streets (now U Street) in downtown Folsom. The station was started as KQED (7th & I). Harriman also donated funds for a streetcar system that connected downtown with rural areas around the county edge. In 1907 the City of Folsom annexed parts of neighbouring cities – Auburn and Roseville – making it one of only two cities in California to be annexed without any vote by its citizens or ballot measure; other municipalities which were annexed included San Francisco (1915), Berkeley (1937), and Los Angeles (1984). On January 5, 1916 vandals smashed windows on three buildings within municipal boundaries: civic building #1 at Seventh and G Streets NW; public works building #2 between Ninth and 10th Streets NW; and school board room #4 on 15th Street SE near Washington Park SE – these actions disrupted services throughout much of western Sacramento County that day but did not damage any property beyond routine repairs/maintenance tasks required by municipal officials.; however local newspapers reported significant damage done to several businesses within Municipal boundaries including hardware store #5 on Tenth Street NW opposite Civic Center SW just prior to mischief reports coming in from neighboring towns

Folsom was founded in 1853 by James Folsom and his brother, John. The town was named for Colonel George Folsom, a United States military officer who fought in the Mexican-American War. A post office was established at Folsom in 1855, and the town grew rapidly. In 1860, the California State Legislature designated Folsom as the county seat of Butte County. The discovery of gold in California led to an enormous influx of people and wealth to Folsom. Businesses were set up to exploit the new found mineral riches; many buildings still stand from this time period including the courthouse and jail. By 1870, however, there were only a few residents living in Folsom while larger towns began to grow up around it such as Gold Rush City (later Sacramento). In 1874, butte County became part of California when it was organized from portions of Yolo and Kern counties. The biggest single impact on Folsom during this time was the arrival of railroads which brought new industry to town along with more people and businesses making their mark on local history. In 1902, Senator Hiram Johnson – then a member of the US Senate from California – sponsored legislation that made it illegal for churches or other religious institutions to use public funds for political purposes without prior approval from state government officials. This had a huge impact on religion in America during this time as well as limiting what people could do with their money which had an indirect effect on development within town limits. Folsom continued to grow rapidly through World War II until 1945 when it lost its status as county seat due to population growth elsewhere in Butte County.
