Folsom, California is a small city in Los Angeles County, California. The population was 25,569 at the 2010 census. It is located on the north side of the San Gabriel Mountains and forms an enclave within West Hollywood. The first Europeans to visit what is now Folsom were Spanish missionaries in 1781. The area that would become Folsom was part of Rancho Santa Anita, which was granted to Manuel Nieto in 1820. In 1868, Folsom became one of three townships (the others being Van Nuys and Claremont) formed from parts of Rancho San Bernardino. In 1870, a post office called "Folsom" was established at the corner of 5th Street and I Street in what is now Van Nuys; it operated until 1902. From 1871 to 1893, A & P Railroad ran a line through town between Pomona and Fullerton; passengers could buy goods delivered into town or take freight cars back out to Pomona when finished loading. On November 15, 1888 – two days after Thanksgiving – by order of Governor John Capps Proposition 8 (a referendum on statehood for California) was passed by voters as part of Measure T (also known as the Nationality Act). This measure defined Californians as citizens only if they wereoreferenceable to one race or gender instead of all races/genders being lumped together under the term "citizens." Proponents argued that this would make possible more accurate statewide Census data because people who identified themselves only as Californians would not be counted twice for purposes of calculating voting power or participation in government services such as education and healthcare programs. As a result of Proposition 8's passage, many African Americans living near downtown LASA offices were terrorized by white mobs who looted their homes and businesses before withdrawing when black residents opened windows to show they had no intent to harm them

Folsom, California is a small town in the Sacramento Valley area of Northern California. With an estimated population of 24,957 as of 2009,[1] it is the second most populous town in Sacramento County after Rancho Bernardo. The town was founded by Mormons in 1868 and named for William Folsom, who was Utah's first Territorial governor. It has since been home to many other denominations of Christianity, including Presbyterians and Methodists. The townsite at the confluence of the Cascades and Feather Rivers was chosen as the site for Folsom because it had good water resources and easy access to transportation. The Mormon pioneers who founded Folsom were among the earliest settlers in this area. They built several Adobe Walls around 1868, as well as a few frame buildings that still stand today. A store opened in 1870 on what is now First Street near Park Boulevard. By 1872, there were also two churches in town - one Methodist and one Presbyterian - plus a blacksmith shop, schoolhouse, barns and outbuildings used by farmers and ranchers. In 1874, when gold was discovered nearby at Sutter’s Mill (now part of Berkeley), miners poured into Folsom from all over California to find new land to claim for their religion. Folsom rapidly became a bustling mining community with its own school system (1875), banking industry (1876), cotton gin (1877), post office (1878) and newspaper (1879). However, by 1886 mining had stopped completely due to depletion of supplies caused by overworking methods; however settlement continued until about 1930 when most of the buildings burned down or were destroyed by fire.[2] The only remaining structure from those years is a hotel on Richards Avenue which brochures from that time say opened on October 10th 1880.[3][4] As local businesses failed during World War II combined with increased competition from other mines within miles such as Gold Rush Gulch,[5] Folsom quickly lost its commercial center status but retains some cultural attractions including an annual summer movie festival called "The Great American Movie Festival" which took place at Camp Roberts Stadium located adjacent to City Hall before moving back indoors for indoor events starting in 2006[6]. Today there are no active mines left operating within Humboldt County so much non-mining activity takes place here instead including arts festivals/concerts/variety shows etc., making it a very vibrant community where people come together not just for work or pleasure but also social activities too!
