Folsom is a city in Sacramento County, California, United States. The population was 102,026 at the 2010 census. It is the sixth-largest city in California and the second-largest city in the Western United States afterLos Angeles. Folsom is located on U.S. Route 101 west of downtown Sacramento and east of Stockton. Folsom's namesake was Captain George Folsom who fought with General Sam Houston during the Mexican–American War and later served as governor of California from 1851 to 1853. The first post office in what is now Folsom was established on December 15, 1849 by First Lieutenant James Hutton Waddell just outside present day Folsom City Limits on what is now State Highway 99W between US 101 and SR 99E The first store opened within a few weeks of its establishment; this was an adobe building near where Paseo de la Huerta Boulevard meets today's University Avenue (now Interstate 805). A general store soon followed on Neches Road northeast of town center which became known as "The Gilded Age Store". In 1860, Waddell donated land north of town to create what would become campus square today while other prehistoric sites have been identified throughout town including a site where early settlers cooked their meals over an open pit fire before moving into their new homes. This original settlement eventually grew to include more than 100 buildings including a schoolhouse, courthouse, jail and several stores/taverns/cafés until annexation by Sacramento removed most business activity from downtown during WW II when much of downtown was destroyed in bombing raids that destroyed many buildings within minutes including many residences dating back to pioneer times In 1870 Samuel Morse bought part interest in the old Paseo de la Huerta Road Depot for use as his own private railroad station called San Joaquin Valley Railroad Station - now long gone but still visible from Interstate 805 . Morse had plans to build one or two brick stations along his line so he named one corner "Morse Street" while another corner became "El Dorado Street" due to its rich gold deposits found nearby After years of discussion among various community leaders it finally happened when voters approved Measure R (approved March 15th 1890) which designated blocks bounded by Main Street NW (later Bancroft Way), Pioneer Blvd NW (later Goldwater Boulevard), San Joaquin Valley Railroad Station Rd & Sahuaro Ave SW as part of newly formed city limits – making Folsom officially incorporated on November 3rd 1889 with Mayor John Vidal serving as our first mayor It wasn't until 1915 that Weiser Park got its name after Mrs. Bertha Weiser who raised money for park construction via her book sales . Today much remains unchanged such as street signs/ markers etc., especially around El Dorado and Morse Streets

The name change to its current form on July 15, 1866 when it was annexed by Sacramento. At that time, the population of the community numbered only 10 people. The business district where the post office operated included groceries and hardware stores as well as a few houses. In 1907, Judge James Folsom donated land to the town for use as a park that would include an arena and playground for children.
