Fontana, California is a small town located in Kern County, California. The population was 7,844 at the 2010 census. It is on the Russian River and surrounded by the Angeles National Forest. The town was founded in 1876 as an agricultural community east of Bakersfield by brothers John and Augustus Fontana. The name originated from the fact that they had found a springs near what is now Fontana. In 1877, the brothers built a water tower to serve their community and opened up a general store. In 1879, John Fontana married Emma Hedden and they started raising cattle in the area around their farmstead. In 1902, they moved to what is now downtown Fontana to become merchants of local cloths and fashionable notions from Asia. They were successful enough that their son Julius took over management of their store in 1922 when his father died. The family also developed an interest in avocados and began exporting them to Mexico City beginning in 1924. The export business led to another building project – this time for a library which would eventually be named after Julius Fontanas wife Alma Mater (Apatheus). The first building opened its doors on October 1st 1931 with $5 thousand raised from four hundred donors including prominent citizens such as banker George Eastman and movie producer Harry Cohn who donated $10 thousand more towards construction debt only to have it cancelled just one day before opening due to bad weather! In 1947, Julius’ daughter Ruth married Willard Weisinger who ran an ice cream parlor adjacent to their store until his death suddenly at age 73 years old early one morning while vacationing at his home on October 20th of that year leaving behind two daughters plus sons Asahel (Asher) III & Amala (Amalyn), both working at various businesses throughout Southern California preceding becoming principals of Weisinger International because he had been appointed Trustee for Development Ventures Incorporated vp through his siblings Ruth & Asahel III following their mother’s death leaving all three children heirs apparent with no living parents remaining interested or able financially participate–the organization folded into itself within months leading us here today with barely enough money left over after paying off all our debts+ funeral expenses+ lawyer fees+Consultantship fees= fontanaschool&grants department
