In fact, many famous celebrities have called Fontana home such as Lenny Bruce and Sammy Davis Jr., both of whom were booked into jail here during their infamous "wild night" concerts in the late 1960s/1970s. It wasn't until 1992 thatFontana joined forces with neighboring Riverside County to form what is now known as "Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department". This merger resulted in some changes within the Police Department but made sure that all officers remained friendly and professional towards each other no matter where they worked! Fontana, California is a city in Riverside County, California. The population was 103,568 at the 2010 census. It is the third-largest city in the county and the largest city east of San Francisco. The downtown area has been designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Founded in 1892 as a small farming town on the edge of present-day Fontana, it became an agricultural center with a large cotton crop and cattle ranching until after World War II when its industries diversified into aerospace, plastics, light manufacturing and education. In 2002, Fontana was named one of "America's Great Cities" by Forbes magazine and has since become one of America's most growth cities with an annual population increase of more than 5%. Fontana is a city in San Bernardino County, California, United States. The population was 54,471 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Riverside-San Bernardino–Ontario Metropolitan Statistical Area. The Fontana area was first inhabited by the Ohlone people, who built their villages on top of hills near present-day Fontana and Sun Valley. The area was claimed by Spain in 1769 as part of Rancho San Gabriel de an concession given to José Manuel Nieto from Governor Diego Rivera. In 1821, Mexico gained independence from Spain and claim all of Alta California; Fontana became part of what would be known as Mexican Riverside province. In 1848, gold was discovered at Sutter’s Mill in nearby Menifee Canyon, sparking a rush to find new land for settlers in Alta California. On December 15, 1849, General Mariano Castro issued orders for the expulsion of all Native Americans living within three miles (5 km) of Mission San Gabriel Archangel/Fontana; this included the Ohlone people who had been living there since before Spanish settlement began. Many Ohlone people were already dead or gone by when Castro arrived and his troops burned their villages and killed any remaining inhabitants on December 16th or January 1st 1850. Most native survivors fled into exile or slavery across 12 western US states during that period. Most early settlers were men prospectors looking for rich metals and other minerals rather than farmers with livestock or landholdings; they took up residence around Sutter’s Mill as soon as possible because there were no suitable hills available to settle on in central Alta California at that time. By 1860 only about 10% of Fontana’s population consisted of European immigrants while 80% Mongolians had moved into the town over the previous five years due tomining operations conducted near Sun Valley west of town and Hearne Mines east of town). As more European miners came to Town during late 1800s these men quickly outgrew rural homes so they built a number small businesses along Foothill Boulevard called “The Strand” which still exists today off Court Road east side just past junction with PCH Rd..
