The first shooters in Fontana were probably the men who hunted game for sport or for food. By 1892, there were several gunsmiths and rifle dealers in town. There was also a shooting club which met twice a month to shoot upland rounds from pistols and shotguns. In 1912, Fontana’s first paper target range opened. The range was located on Coal Street near High School and attracted many people from surrounding towns to hunt with local farmers. From 1916-1920, the Fontana Rifle Association operated a muzzleloader/rifle range on North Avenue near Industrial Park. This Range was used by all age groups and most often produced high scores because of its tight condition, good ammo availability, and well designed targets.

Other significant figures include Dr. George Atherton (1868-1957), who led research into blood typing at Salk Institute; Judge Julius Rosenwald (1893-1979), founder of Rosenwald Furniture Company; Edward Fenton (1892-1976), president and CEO of First Interstate Bancorp; and Myron Ebell (1912-2009), director of research at American Physical Society and professor at Princeton University’s Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution.

Fontana, California is a small town located in Riverside County, California. The population was 9,871 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Greater Los Angeles Area. Fontana has been inhabited for over 3,000 years and was once known as "The Meadows of the Pomona Mountains". In 1868, John Brougham donated land to be used as a public square in Fontana. The first post office in Fontana opened on July 16th, 1870. In 1875, Charles Fenton built the first sawmill in Fontana. A year later, he also founded what is now called the Fenton Brewery which still operates today. In 1899-1900, two brothers named Clarence and Orville Doherty started an agricultural cooperative that became one of the largest in Southern California. Theynamed their company Rancho San Bernardino de la Frontera (later renamed Rancho La Brea). The Dohertys were instrumental in expanding agriculture throughout southern California and helped build many mansions there such as those at 2nd Street and Cahuenga Boulevard. When World War I began on April 14th 1914, Fontana war service men recruited local residents to serve in various units including artillery batteries along with other towns within Riverside County such as Claremont and951st Orthopedic Hospital Unit serving wounded veterans from across America during this time period Some of these residents would return home after being discharged from military service to found their own businesses or carry on similar civic activities like music festivals or car races through town squares which continue even today

In addition to ranching and agriculture, Fontana also played an important role as a transportation hub for goods moving between San Diego County and inland Los Angeles County. The decline of farming around the turn of the 21st century led toFontanas decline as well. However, over recent years there has been a resurgence of interest in local history, with various events being hosted to promote awareness about Fontana's past.
