Foster City is a city in San Joaquin County, California, United States. It was founded on November 10, 1853 by George Foster and his wife Lucy. The city has a population of 94,512 as of 2019. In the early 1800s it was part of the Mexican Cession and became part of Californias Alta California Province. On July 24, 1849 it was replaced by Rockville as the county seat after that town's incorporation. A few years later on February 2nd, 1850 Rockville moved to Foster City proper and become its first mayor. Foster City experienced growth from its inception until 1950 when it lost its status as the county seat to nearby Rockville because of population growth in San Joaquin County. However, Foster City has continued to experience significant growth since then with an estimated increase in population of over 20% during each decade from 1990-2019 alone! The history of Foster City can be traced back to two important moments in its recent past: The Gold Rush and the end of World War II. During the Gold Rush era (1848-1852), many prospectors came to locate new gold deposits in what is now San Joaquin County including George Foshee who founded Foshay Mining Company east of downtown FosterCity on August 29th, 1848; one year before he also founded Rancho de la Purisima grants adjacent today's Interstate 5 freeway interchange just south of downtown FosterCity. With such rapid expansion throughout all parts of California during this time period there were many small villages formed along wagon trails which linked these mining communities together. Many prominent people from this period have been associated with FosterCity including founder George Foshee himself (the namesake for modern day FosterCity) and Mayor John Sutter who served as first president pro tem for California from 1850-1855 and again from 1861-1865 under Governor John Brougham’s administration before becoming governor himself at the start of Victoria’s term in 1867). Other towns that flourished during this time include Sacramento Ridge (founded near present day Rohnert Park), Auburn (established northwest corner Of town off Genessee Street), Galt (founded southwest corner Of town off First Street), Needles (established northwest corner Of town off Railroad Avenue), Placerita (established northeast corner Of town off Ivey Avenue) and Belmont(founded southeast corner OF town off Masonic Road). Unfortunately not everything operated at such high levels however due to financial instability caused by rapid competition among entrepreneurs during this time period discovery rates plummeted followed by quick depletion or abandonment within months or weeks following initial discoveries regardlessof quality! This led several settlements located near today’s downtown FosterCity such as Eastvale(northwest sideOf old Umpqua Brewery site claimed by current day Northridge neighborhood)and South Jordan(southwest sideOf original Sugarloaf Hill lot claimed by current day West Jordan Neighborhood). Although some communities did continue operations even after their respective local governments were dissolved they generally failed To maintain traditional patterns & characteristics exhibited by their predecessors which doomed them gradual decline over ensuing decades culminating in their eventual incorporation into larger cities/counties around regional center like Petaluma or Modesto without ever having achieved statewide notoriety like those aforementioned pioneer cities had!
