Foster City is a city located in San Joaquin County, California. The population was 61,853 at the 2010 census. It is the third-largest city in San Joaquin County and the second-largest city east of Sacramento, both making it one of the most populous cities in Northern California. Foster City’s beginnings date back to 1847 when several families from Foster Valley moved to this area and founded the town of Foster City on November 6th of that year. The name “Foster City” was given to this community by Captain James WIlliam Foster who lived nearby and named his small settlement for his father who had died some time earlier. The first post office was established in 1849 and served as a stop on stagecoaches between Stockton and Sacramento. In 1855, a new courthouse was built near what is now downtown Foster City and soon after become an important part of the local judiciary system. In 1865, two miles north of downtown were erected two large cotton fields which are still used today as residential areas. In 1870, three brothers – George Washington Wright (1827-1902), Edward Everett Webb (1829-1920) and John Wesley Wright – bought land northwest of present day downtown Foster City from José Altún y Peralta for $1,000USD per acre ($10M USD today). They began construction on a large cotton gin which they named Hope Cotton Planter House after their mother who had been born in Mexico but raised in Boston where she married an American man. Hope Cotton Planter House remains one of Foster City’s most recognizable landmarks today. After years of hard work and dedication by these founding fathers, FosterCity became known as one of the most prosperous towns in northern California during its early years. By 1890, however, economic conditions had begun to unravel within America and throughout Northern California as a result of inflation caused by overgrazing on farmlands across America during this time period which resulted in mass unemployment among farmers throughout much of California including FosterCity The Wright brothers eventually sold their share interest in Hope Cotton Planter House to Walter Emmet Hale (1868-1941) for $5 millionUSD In 1926 Hale donated all remaining assets from Hope Cotton Planter House including its land to the city government for use as a public park with originally intended festivities such as fairs/festivals being held there annually until it burned down due to firestorming during World War II while also serving as an open air movie theater which continues play today On December 4th 1944 during World War II Japanese bombers bombed southern endowment building located just northeast corner Main Street & Second Avenue killing sixty six people along with numerous other injuries before finally crashing into Building directly next door causing extensive damage

On December 14, 1886, another group of pioneers founded what is now called Pacific Heights within the limits of Foster City.
