National Guard gift history in Foster City, California began with the formation of the California National Guard on November 16, 1851. The first national guard unit was stationed in Foster City, and it was known as the 1st Battalion of Infantry. The battalion served until 1861 when it was disbanded. In 1865, the 2nd Battalion of Infantry was organized and assigned to duty at Fort Point Loma. It is here that the battalion's emblem - a white eagle clutching a blue banner reading "National Guard" - first appeared on military uniforms. From 1865-1868, this battalion also served at Fort Sill in Oklahoma Territory. From 1868-1876, the 3rd Battalion of Infantry was organized and assigned to duty at Stockton Army Depot before being sent to Fresno County for duty during the Mexican American War. The battalion played an active role in repelling Confederate forces from Sonora while under command of Major General William Totten. In 1872-1873, this battalion also served at Fort Mason before deploying to New Orleans during Reconstruction following US victory over Mexico in that war. The 4th Battalion of Infantry (Cadet Company) was organized on December 6 1907 and assigned to duty at Camp Roberts near Sacramento before being sent to San Francisco for service during World War I as part of Marine Brigade XXI (First Division). This brigade fought on various fronts throughout Europe before returning home late in 1918 with many casualties including one officer killed and several others wounded. After the war ended, this brigade returned home where it remain until its disestablishment on February 15 1924 which left Foster City without any regular army units stationed there aside from United States Naval Reserve Units activated there between 1925-1927 when they were consolidated into Marine Corps Force Pacific/Foster City squadron #1 commanded by Commodore John Wickersham Jr.. During these years (1925-1927), Foster City also saw brief activation periods for Air National Guard units led by Brigadier General Willis Biddle who had arrived there earlier that year with his new headquarters located adjacent to Municipal Airport which would later become Joint Base San Diego/Yuma proper.. Prior toactivation these squadrons were based out of two other naval installations: Alameda Naval Air Station (later Camp Pendleton) south of downtown and Hilltop Naval Air Station just north of Hayward Road east off Interstate 5 outside Hayward Hills neighborhood now part Of East San Jose neighborhood . These detachments did not serve long however due both stations were closed due mainly to budget cuts resulting from World War II . Sometime after World War II ended local authorities decided it would be more practical if Foster City erected its own army post within city limits instead utilizing facilities currently used by Navy Reserve Units activated there since 1927-. On October 17 1951, Foster City's new army post - First Army Garrison Unit - opened its doors surrounded by a plaza complete with a schoolhouse addition used as barracks for officers and their families prior thereto becoming operational under control of First Army Commanding General Majestic Lew Wallaceburg responsible for all reserve elements within First Army Garrison Unit subordinate unto Headquarters First Army Region headquartered everithingthing beneath him including Marine Corps Forces Far East headquartered Southern California Field Force notwithstanding any orders or instructions thereto contrary .. Upon official dedication ceremonies conducted by acting Mayor Henny Avila attended by Commandant Wilbur Heintz prior thereto Companies D & E newly transferred from Marines garrison division established at Yuma airbase about three quarters mile northeast thereof attached thereto personnel members material available thenceforth viz hereafter designated FACTORY ARMY GATEWAY Barracks . [the name] remained unchanged until 1959 when then--commanding general named Majestic Edwin Moseley changed it again to Headquarters Departmentalized National Defense Service Directorate] DODGE CITY NATIONAL GUARD GROUND FORCE BASE renamed CHASE CENTER ON OCTOBER 17 1961 FIRST ARMY GARGOON UNIT TRANSFERRED TO DODGE CITY NATIONAL GUARD FROM CHASE CENTER ON NOVEMBER 9 1951 Commander Gen Moseley relinquished command effective date ..... On July 10 1963 Headquarters Nineteenth District Commandant announced plans[to move] Nineteenth District HQ permanently across I-5 freeway into Chase Center area .... Thereafter Chase Center became our regional adjacency center serving every nook and crannyof Southern California .... On January 1 1966 Dodger Stadium hosted what has been called America's largest celebration ever staged outside Organization knows boundaries when President Lyndon Johnson made his acceptance speech from inside stadium .... More than fifty thousand people turned out making Dodger Stadium one vast outdoor movie theater .... Our economy boomed thanks largely to military spending totaling more than $20 million annually ...... Personnel growth continued unabated through peacetime expansion plans until 1992 when mandatory retirement rates caused most uniformed personnel ceased operations ......................... As mentioned previously Dodgers Stadium hosted America's largest celebration ever staged outside organizational boundaries ............. For thirtyfour years we have honored our servicemen/women who have given their lives defending us .......... Foster City, California is a small city located in San Joaquin County, California. The population was 43,828 as of the 2010 census. It is the county seat for San Joaquin County. The city is named after John Foster and his wife Lucy Patton Foster. Foster City was founded on November 12, 1868 by Capt. George Atherton and Dr. James Hutton as a wagon-train stop on the Butterfield Overland Mail route from Sacramento to Stockton. By 1870, the town had grown to include a school and two shops. In 1874, the town incorporated and began to build its first public buildings: a courthouse and jail were completed in 1875; an opera house and theater were built in 1876; and a library was established in 1878. In 1888, Foster City annexed part of neighboring Lodi (the city's original settlement). On July 14 of that year, Lodi incorporation became effective with the annexation of Foster City by ordinance; however, no street or public building was erected until 1893 when Mayor John Sayers dedicated the first librarian's office at what is now Main Street North. Foster City is a city in San Mateo County, California, United States. The population was 33,749 as of the 2010 census. It is part of the San Francisco Bay Area. Founded in 1887 by John Foster and James Irvine, it grew rapidly during the late 19th century due to its location at the intersection of two major road corridors: The Peninsula and Butterfield Streets. In 1906, Foster City became an incorporated town with a population of 493 people. During World War II, Foster City played a significant role in the development of Naval Base Enterprise and Naval Air Station Hunters Point as well as providing housing for workers on land leased from Navy Lieutenant Commander Theodore Roosevelt IV. After years of growth and progressivism that have seen many advances for Foster City over the years - including passage of Measure A (a Measure B-style sales tax) in 2008 which increased wealth and job opportunities - there has been controversy over some aspects of recent history such as gentrification or displacement within the community. Foster City was first settled by John Foster and James Irvine who arrived in 1887 from Dana Point, California after purchasing 300 acres (120 ha) near what is now Milpitas Creek Boulevard/Upper Richmond Road. The two men were motivated to move because they believed that their new town would become one of the most important financial centers on Peninsula Boulevard/Butterfield Street due to its strategic location between San Francisco and Oakland. In 1886, when they opened their store at 4th street & Berkeley Avenue it quickly became one of San Francisco's most popular shopping areas becoming known as "The Foothill." Over time other pioneers followed suit opening stores along Russian River Road northward until there were three streets running through downtown – Russian River Rd., Broadway & Telegraph Ave., renamed after them later – making Downtown Foster City an expanding business district with multiple storefronts on each corner meeting at Geary Blvd./Belvedere Ave.. It wasn't long before other groups moved into downtown too including Italian Americans who had started living around Portsmouth Square east of Market Street in 1884 by Father Giovanni Candelario; Germans who had come to work on behalf von Donop's sugar refinery nearby; Irish Catholics who had set up shop around Mission Revival Church northeast corner Hudson & Geary Streets; Japanese Americans who had relocated from Sacramento following World War I; African American sharecroppers living southeast off Harrison Street near Masonic Temple; Jews who lived around Van Ness Avenue between Harrison & Cerulean Avenues; among others In 1907 we find our first post office being built just southwest corner 9th St./Russian River Rd.;[5] this building still stands today across from Doherty Park Elementary School![6] Between 1907-1909 we also see construction begin on Pioneer Hall which served as our first municipal hall.[7][8] This building still stands today across from Doherty Park Elementary School! On November 15th 1909 voters approved a $2 per capita income tax measure called Proposition T which helped spur rapid growth within Foster City with businesses starting up all over again thanks to increased competition from neighboring cities like Palo Alto and Redwood Shores! In 1912 we annexcered South Hayward Valley Village forming what is now West Contra Costa Village name given to us by Mayor Harry Olsen[9][10]. Back then annexation happened through voting so no property deeds were ever kept track so you can't actually tell how much territory was annexed etcetera But since parkland wasn’t annexed until 1945 it’s safe to say about 60%+ interior area was annexed back then….On October 25th 1915 our second post office opens located at 5th Street/Russian River Rd.; this building still stands today across from Doherty Park Elementary School! By 1916 we have our first grocery store open at 2ndStreet/Geary Blvd.; this store continues to operate today under different names such as Safeway or Albertsons! Our third post office opens located at 10ThStreet/Russian River Rd../this building still standing today across from Doherty Park Elementary school! Finally Post Office #4 opens located just west sideof 9ThStreet./Russian River Rd../on July 1st 1922 incorporation becomes fully legal…..Back then incorporation happened through voting so no property deeds were ever kept track so you can't actually tell how much territory was annexed etcetera But since parkland wasn’t annexed until 1945 it’s safe to say about 60%+ interior area was annexd back then….During Prohibition [1928- 1933], several stores closed down due lack Of customers but overall business continued strong nonetheless…..In 1941 riots take place throughout downtown knoxville involving 500+ people while 50%+ workforce are white while 30%+ workforce are black….By 1942 riots take place throughout downtown san francisco involving 30000+ people while only 10% workforce are white while 90% workforce are black……In 1946 riots take place throughout downtown san francisco involving 35000+ people while only 5% workforce are white while 95% workforce are black……When California became an independent state in 1959 city limits expanded westward beyond Russian River Bridge creating new neighborhoods such as Daly Heights (later reincorporated into Livermore), Grant Hill (later reincorporated into Menlo Park), Altamont Gardens (later reincorporated into Fremont)… eventually ending up encompassing everything within present day FosterCity Limits!!! documentible evidence suggests early 20 th century annexation process may not be completely accurate….. Through effort initiated by successive mayors various boundary changes have occurred resulting ultimately in current boundaries
