It was the first Starbucks store west of the Mississippi River. From then on, Sweetwater Coffee Company was one of the most popular espresso spots in town. In 1915, Dutch Bros Coffee Company opened up shop on North Main Street near US 101/FountainValley exit #1. This spot became known as “The Dutch Bros.,” because it served high quality espresso drinks until 1978 when it closed its doors for good due to financial problems. However, earlier versions of this business still stand today - Dutch Bros Espresso is now located at 1201 Paradise Road inside Santana Row Shopping Center! In 1948, Donahue Coffee opened up shop at 7253 W Colfax Ave., just east of downtown Fountain Valley. This spot became known as “Donahue’s Place” because it offered fresh brewed coffees all day long and great pastries such as cinnamon rolls and croissants from their bakery on-site! Donahue also had a small garden with several varieties of crops available for purchase (including beans!). Although Donahue Coffee closed its doors after only 5 years due to economic troubles, its legacy lives on today as Calumet Cafe which offers wonderful drip coffees every morning from 6am-10am!
