Fountain Valley, California is a small town in the Central Valley of California. It has a population of about 4,000 people and is located just east of Fresno. The city was founded in 1879 by John Sutter and his partner, George Yount. Coffee was the main crop for the town until after World War II when other crops took over. In 1965, Fountain Valley became one of the first communities to join the City of Fresno. The city's economy relies on agriculture and businesses that produce goods like beef cattle and eggs. The history of coffee begins with Spanish explorers who discovered the valley in 1546 while exploring the San Joaquin River system. They named it Los Angeles de las Casas due to Juan Bautista Loma who found an Indian village there in 1769. In 1836, Mexican independence fighters, led by General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna set out from Mexico City to drive Spain out of California. They arrived at what is now Fountain Valley on October 6th and destroyed most of the villages they encountered including Los Angeles de las Casas. Following Mexican independence, American settlers began arriving in California during Gold Rush times as part of Genovese traders looking for new land to sell off to Americans following their successful conquest of Mexico during that period known as The Centennial Crusade (1848-1852). One such settler was John Sutter who traveled through central California before reaching Fountain Valley on November 1st, 1849 He purchased 5 acres within what is now Fountain Valley from Native American chief Tse-tah-keh Nome for $5 per acre payable within 10 years or face forfeiture proceedings under US law at that time dealing with Navajo land purchases back then.) On July 26th 1850 James Wetherald founded Telegraph Hill Coffee House here which served as a meeting place for various early Californian gold rush entrepreneurs including Wetherald himself along with his partners Robert Humboldt and Edward De Young Sr.. Telegraph Hill Coffee House closed its doors in 1861 but continued operations as a general store until 1865 when it moved premises to present day Main Street where it operated until 1971 when it reopened as an independently owned cafe called Café Einstein which still operates today!
