It is nestled between the mountains to the east and the valley to the west on both sides of Interstate 5. The name "Fountain Valley" comes from two stream valleys that meet near its namesake Fountain. One valley runs north-south while another flows east-west. Together they form a combined watershed that includes parts of Kern and Riverside Counties as well as Bakersfield and Tulare Counties in central California. The streams running through this valley provide drinking water for many people in surrounding communities, including Fountain Valley itself. The first evidence of human activity in this area can be found at the bottom of a small hill about 10 miles northwest of Fountain Valley on Highway 395. A series of pits dating back to around 10,000 BC have been discovered at various sites throughout Kern County, some of which are still being studied today. These early humans likely hunted large mammals such as deer and bear, and may also have dug irrigation ditches and built dwellings here because it was warm enough for agriculture during most of their time period. One theory suggests that early humans moved here from Southern California because it was cooler than other areas along I-5. Another theory suggests that they were drawn to nearby groundwater resources which could be tapped using simple techniques such as hand digging or abrasion methods. Regardless of the reason why they came here, by 8500 BC these early humans had developed an understanding of how to cultivate plants using firelight and direct sunlight instead of traditional methods used by earlier cultures elsewhere in North America. This development led to increased trade with other regions across North America so that local goods started arriving in Fountain Valley much earlier than would typically happen due to overland travel across long distances! By 6000 BC there were villages nearpresent day Fountain Valley with several hundred people living together under one roof! This indicates that community formation was not only possible but common within this region during this time period! Later on different groups began settling here permanently including Native Americans who arrived about 7000 BC followed byavers who lived here until about 1000 AD when drought conditions forced them out into neighboring counties (Kern County included). These groups brought with them their own culture, language, religions etc., which continues to exist today among some members thereof! There are numerous interesting stories associated with these earliest inhabitants OF Fountain Valley: one group settled down around 12 Mile Creek where they erected a stone shelter known as “the Canoe House”; another band set up shop around 11 Mile Springs; yet another group roamed the surrounding countryside for years before settling down eventually at what is now called Village Creek; finally yet another band established themselves downstream from present day Village Creek just after 1700 AD before moving upstream again sometime later during ensuing years… all without leaving any physical trace behind! All these groups left behind tales & memories which continue To This Day (& often get tongue-in-cheek mentions when passing thru!). The first permanent settler in Fountain Valley was George Fenton, who arrived in 1851. At the time, it was part of Rancho San Joaquin de Anza (now part of Fresno). In 1868, John Sutter founded Sutter's Mill and Village here on his new rancho south oftown. A post office called Fountain Valley was established in 1869, and remained in operation until 1907. Fountain Valley began to grow rapidly after World War II when many families moved there from nearby towns such as Needles and Marysville due to the high quality of life available here. Today, Fountain Valley remains a small town with a diverse population that includes people from all over Northern California and Nevada. There are several interesting features about Fountain Valley history: 1) The first post office served one community for only two years before moving to another location; 2) The first store in town opened on December 5th, 1870; 3) One of America's earliest "smart" water meters were installed here; 4) A few blocks east of downtown is an open-air market which has been operating since 1922; 5) There are several art galleries and restaurants located throughout the community; 6) One block north of downtown is home to one of America's largest concentration solar energy systems – consisting of more than 20 mirrors measuring 25 feet wide by 30 feet long – used to generate electricity for homes and businesses
