The Coast Guard Auxiliary of Fremont was established on November 1, 1947. With the establishment of the Auxiliary and the growth in Coast Guard activity along the California coast, it became necessary to create an organization specific to this sector of our society. The name for this new entity was the “Fremont Coast Guard Auxiliary” and it has been in existence ever since. Since its inception, the Fremont Coast Guard Auxiliary have provided many memorable gifts to their community. Some of these items include honorary officerships, medals, watches and other memorabilia. In addition to providing important services to their local community, the Auxiliary also play a vital role in keeping our coastline safe from storm damage and piracy. Today, there are over 350 members of the Fremont Coast Guard Auxiliary who support law enforcement activities throughout Northern California. The Fremont Coast Guard Station was established on January 12, 1879, in Fremont by the California legislature. The station was first known as the "San Francisco Life-Saving Station". The name change to the present day Fremont Coast Guard Station on December 2, 1912.
Fremont, California is a city located in the San Francisco Bay Area of Northern California. The population was 713,824 as of July 1, 2017. It is the largest city in the county and has a population density of 556 people per square mile (220/km²). Fremont's estimated area is 20square miles (50 square kilometers), making it one of the most miniature cities in North America. The first Europeans to visit what is now Fremont were Spanish explorers who discovered gold deposits there in 1769. The name Fremont comes from an early Englishman who named it after his home town, Golden Square in England. The first permanent residents of Fremont arrived around 1839 when gold was discovered at Sutter's Mill on the Hayward River. At that time, only about 10% of present-day Fremont lay within its current boundaries. In 1861, Jepson erected a small adobe house at Ninth and Mission Streets near what is now Union Pacific Railroad Station to serve as the local post office. A year later he erected another small adobe house on Second Street just east of Market Street for use as a public schoolhouse which served until 1865 when it burned down due to fire。 In 1872 Jepson donated land off Center Street between Third and Fourth streets for development into what became known as downtown Fremont (). Development continued with new buildings being constructed south of Center Street until 1942 when all buildings north of Center Street were destroyed by fire caused by an electric heater operated by some students from nearby Oak Ridge High School (). Only two structures remain standing today – One from 1872 and One from 1942 – both located on South First Avenue near Central Park
The Coast Guard has a rich history of giving gifts. Gifts have been given in many different ways, including money, goods, and services. Gifts from the Coast Guard have been important to the organization and have helped it continue to serve the public. One of the earliest gifts from the Coast Guard was money. In 1892, a group of sailors from Rhode Island donated 1 dollar for every hour worked on shore by the coast guard. This donation helped start the Coast Guard’s Foundation program which provides grants to organizations that help keep our coastline safe and healthy. Goods were also given in an effort to support the Coast Guard. In 1933, Rear Admiral John Halsey presented a gift of four lifeboats with engines and storage capacity to be used as stranded vessels on Long Island Sound. This donation allowed us to help more people find relief during difficult times. In 1984, Rear Admiral James A Fenton offered his service as Commandant at Hampton Roads National Seashore for two years in exchange for a Corvette Stingray automobile (which is still being gifted today). This gift allowed us to improve our infrastructure and increase safety on our shorelines. In 2002, Rear Admiral Timothy M Ladd offered his service as Commandant at North Carolina's Outer Banks National Seashore in order to purchase an ice cream truck from local businesses (which is still being gifted today). This gift allowed us more opportunities to visit local businesses and provide treats for our troops stationed there!

Throughout its history, the Coast Guard has been generous in giving back to society through donations of equipment and supplies, such as engines and helicopters. In recent years, however, gifts have become more common among members of the public in order to give backpacks filled with items like clothes and school supplies that are distributed to low income families or children who are also impacted by crime or disaster.
