In 1916, William Munro opened the world's largesthydraulic fracturing well at Anheuser-Busch Brewery in what is now Redding, California; this event helped spur further development within Fremont and other parts of East Bay County around Anheuser-Busch Brewery; today that brewery operates as AB InBev Brewing Company..

After the war ended, Fremont gradually lost its importance as a commercial center until it regained some prominence in the late 19th century thanks to technological advances such as telephone service and automobiles.
