Tactical coffee is a genre of coffee that is specific to the Fremont, California area. The first Tactical Coffee was created by two friends, Rick and Bob in 1984. Rick became the owner and operator of the business while Bob continued working as a consultant. Today, Tactical Coffee operates out of four locations in Fremont with plans to open additional stores over time. The origin story of Tactical Coffee can be traced back to early 1984 when Rick and Bob decided to start their own coffee shop together. At the time, Rick was an experienced barista who had worked at several high-volume coffee shops throughout Northern California. Bob was also an experienced consultant who had spent many years working with small businesses across various industries. After discussing their ideas for a new coffee shop, they decided on the name: “TACO BAR” – an allusion toRick's previous job as Manager of a local taco restaurant. At first glance, it may appear that Tactical Coffee is simply another small business operating out of one location in Fremont – but this isn't how it started. In fact, there were actually three different incarnations of Tactical Coffee beforeRick and Bob founded their current store in 1984: TACO BAR (now closed), TOWARDS THE EDGE (now defunct), AND DARE TO BREATHE (closed). Each incarnation served different purposes and differed substantially from each other in terms of menu items and hours of operation. It wasn't until late 1987 thatRick finally opened his original store which he named "Tacos&Brews" after his affiliation with San Francisco's famous Taco Bell chain (owneried then by Carlos Gutierrez). From this point forward, Tacos&Brews would serve as the primary focus for both Rick and Bob – notwithstanding other ventures such as TOWARDS THE EDGE which operated intermittently between 1988-1991; AND DARE TO BREATHE which only lasted six months due to difficulties opening up during a tough economic climate.) While Tacos&Brews served as home base for both owners during these early days, they soon recognized that they needed more space so they formed a partnership with local contractor Tom Chiu - who designed and built what would become one of the most ambitious expansion projects ever undertaken within downtown Fremont – constructing two new buildings on Telegraph Avenue adjacent to Interstate 5 – becoming known collectively as "the Central Building." This addition helped fuel demand for tactical coffee within downtown Fremont while also increasing visibility for Tacos&Brews given its unique setting amidst such towering municipal infrastructure! It should be noted that unlike some commercial establishments which adopted an aggressive marketing strategy attempting to attract national attention through flashy exterior signage or billboards outside their doors; both Rick & Bob Cerebral Pupils completely eschewed any attempt at outwarddisplaying their brand here in favor instead opting instead for strictly word-of-mouth advertising utilizing flyers hand-delivered door-to-door throughout downtown Fremont)
