The Fresno Army National Guard has been deployed in various places throughout the years. One of the most well-known deployments is during World War II where they served in the Pacific Theater. After the war, they served in Vietnam and then Desert Storm. Currently, they are deployed to Afghanistan as part of Operation Inherent Resolve. In World War II, the FresnoArmy National Guard was stationed at Camp Thomas near Yosemite National Park. From 1942 until 1945, they were mobilized for two years and were assigned to duty with the United States 16th Infantry Division under General George Custer’s command at Fort Benning, Georgia. They fought in Burma and then Japan before being discharged from service at Harlingen, Texas on October 15, 1945. After World War II ended, Fresno Army National Guard members served in many different capacities including active duty military personnel through 1968 when it was reorganized as a reserve component of the California Army National Guard. Throughout this time period they were mobilized for a variety of conflicts such as Desert Storm (1991), Kosovo (1999), Persian Gulf War (2003), and Iraq 2003 Invasion (2003). Currently there are over 21000 soldiers within 4500 units serving in more than 100 countries worldwide including Afghanistan where they have been since 2001 as part of Operation Inherent Resolve

As early as 1853–54, Mexican soldiers were harassing US citizens living near Mission San José de Buenaventura; President Dwight D Eisenhower ordered General George Armstrong Custer to relieve them on July 29, 1954 because they had been doing so openly without US military protection since November 8th 1951 In 1865 due to water shortages caused by drought problems throughout most of California due to mining operations associated with nearby Lassen Peak Gold Rush events which started on December 6th 1863 when prospector Michael Hahn walked across an open cut into Lassen Peak known then as Butte Creek Hills Open Pit mine (now part of Diablo Canyon National Park) while prospecting for gold nuggets using a bullwhip he later called “the best find I ever made” In 1870s there were about 30 farms scattered around present day downtown areas south side of Doniphan Road between Stockton Boulevard and Doniphan Road not included within current boundaries but still part of town including: Healdsburg Rancho Seco community located east side orchard off Doniphan Rd., Beaumont Farms located west side orchard off Stockton Blvd., Atherton Heights located north side orchard off Hwy 395 near Airport Way/SR 99 intersection,, Arroyo Viejo Community located east side orchard off SR 99 intersection along Interstate 680 corridor next to Redding Municipal Airport
