The Fresno Army National Guard has been a part of the United States military since 1846. TheGuard is one of the oldest standing armories in California and one of the most decorated units in the nation. During World War II, Fresno was home to two of America's largestAAF bases; El Toro and Monterey. The unit also fought at Iwo Jima and Okinawa. Today, Fresno's Armoured Cav regiment is among the most decorated in the United States military with numerous awards, including five Distinguished Service Medals and four Purple Hearts. Gift history for the Fresno Army National Guard stretches back to 1846 when soldiers from Colusa County formed a company called "Fresno Battalion" to serve in the Mexican-American War. In 1865, an act was passed by Congress authorizing establishment of artillery companies within each state militia organization under section 803(a) of title 10 US Code. On October 5th, 1866, Captain John Smedley organized "Fresno Regiment No 1" as an infantry regiment at Camp Cooke near Valley Center. This unit served as a garrison force until 1898 when it was deployed to San Francisco during war with Mexico (1867-68). At its peak strength, this battalion had over 350 men and women assigned to it across three battalions spread over six states! In 1903, Representative Robert Hatton introduced House Bill 4382 which would authorize donation by private individuals for use by local militaries through certain State Education Board Programs established pursuant thereto – specifically “the Army National Guard Recruiting Fund” authorized thereby (Hatton bill #4382). On July 15th 1903 Governor George Deukmejian signed into law Senate Bill 283 which amended existing laws relating to gifts from private individuals for use by state militias through various State Education Board programs established pursuant thereto (SenateBill 283). Private donations were now being earmarked specifically for use by state militaries through these programs rather than going straight into general fund coffers! 1/9/2006 marks 100 years since Fresno's first CA ARMY NATIONAL GUARD REGIMENT WORE THEIR MARINE CORPS JACKETS IN THE COAST OF CALIFORNIA On October 5th 1906 Captain John Smedley organized "Fresno Regiment No 2" as an infantry regiment at Camp Cooke near Valley Center under command of Lieutenant Colonel Arthur J Howe . This unit served as garrison force until 1898 when it was deployed to San Francisco during war with Japan (1894-95). At its peak strength, this battalion had over 460 men and women assigned to it across four battalions spread over ten states! After WWI ended on November 11th 1918 General Pershing ordered all American troops out of Europe so that they could focus on rebuilding Germany after WWI - this order led directly to troop reductions within botharmies throughout America meaning that only about 20% of Major Commanded Units still wore field uniforms! Consequently Squadron Officers such as myself were now required start wearing civilian clothes while commanding our units!!! One hundred fifty years later we still wear our Marine Corps Jackets while performing our military duties!!!

The Fresno Army National Guard was then reorganized on July 1, 1907, and participated in World War I. After the war, the Fresno Army National Guard was placed under the command of the United StatesArmy Forces Europe. On November 11, 1918, the Fresno Army National Guard was redesignated as an infantry regiment and served in World War II as part of General George S. Patton's Third Infantry Division. In 1951, the regiment became an armored brigade and served during Operation Urgent Fury while also being mobilized for Korea. Following Korean conflict, it became an infantry regiment again and deployed to Vietnam where it fought until 1975 when it returned home to support California's efforts in that war. Fresno, California is a city in the Central Valley of California. It is the most populous city in and the county seat of Fresno County. The population was 196,145 as of 2017. The first known inhabitants of what is now Fresno were the Patagonian Jawed Unkapis and their presumed extinct culture may have arrived around 7000 BC. The area was explored by American traders on December 14, 1839, during Mexican–American War, José Joaquín Cámpora discovered San Francisco Bay and named it after General Manuel Micheltorena; however, this claim is also disputed. The first permanent European settlement in what is now Fresno was made by Mormon settlers led by George Smith in 1846. In 1851, gold was found at Sespe and this led to an influx of settlers who founded ranchos near present-day Fresno; many of these men became involved with mining operations. The Townsite Act created a town here on February 3, 1850; however, no one moved into the town until 1861 when John Davenport organized a company to explore water rights for Rancho Cerro Gordo; he named the new town after his friend and fellow speculator James Gadsden. By 1870, there were over 200 people living in Bulldogs Landing alone; following various attempts to connectwater supplies from east Santa Clara River through canals to Stockton via north-south routes via Mission Canyon (the missions had been closed due to strikes) and under Guadalupe Peak before being connected by way of Doniphan Canal at which point Stockton could be reached without going downriver or overland route like earlier trips; all these efforts failed because costs too high
