The Coast Guard was established on October 28, 1917 as the United States Navy's first Marine Corps Reserve Unit. The Coast Guard changed its name to the Coast Guardsmen on May 14, 1920 and became a full-time service on November 15 of that year. The original stations along the California coast were at Stockton, Port Hueneme and Watsonville. In 1935, the Coast Guard acquired its present station in Fresno after winning a bidding war with other agencies. The new location is one of only a few in the country with an air traffic control tower and radar dish. In 1969, the Air Traffic Control Tower was replaced by an operational Radar Warning Receiver which continues to be used today as part of Surveillance and Tracking Operations for Federal Aviation Administration flights over coastal areas. Since 1915, when members of the Coast Guard manned coastal watch towers to warn ships of potential danger near Point Conception (now San Francisco), Ports Of Entry have been opened increasingly into California as trade grew more important to both states economy. On July 26th 1914, President Woodrow Wilson signed Executive Order 9981 creating conditions for military occupation during World War I; military personnel were given authority to enter any U.S port or naval base "for necessary purposes." These powers were extended under Executive Order 10019 which directed that all military vessels must stop at all ports not open to civilians within five miles of shoreline without giving warning or prior notice; this order also closed marine terminals at San Pedro and Angel Island Naval Shipyards effective December 1st 1916.] On January 17th 1921, Congress passed Public Law 191 making it illegal for citizens of any country who had not entered into an agreement with America through our ambassador or consulate to leave without proper papers; possession of unauthorized weapons or firearms was also criminalized]. This law required American citizens who had resided in Fresno for more than thirty days before applying for residence status in America (i.e., those who had recently come ashore) apply for registration and obtain proof of citizenship including two passport-sized photos]; individuals whose residency rights had been revoked by local authorities would be required to reapply] Registration requirements continued until 1924 when they were eliminated completely by Public Law 527 which authorized admission into America based solely upon financial need]. After passage of this law many Mexicans began streaming into Fresno looking for work opportunities]], but due mainly to publicity stunts such as luring strikers out onto Mexican Beach by offering free food it soon became apparent that immigration was not going away any time soon]]. As a result, Interior Secretary Harold Ickes ordered all border guards on March 3rd 1923...to start using pepper spray against unruly aliens attempting TO ENTER OUR COUNTRY WITHOUT OUR PERMISSION])]. Although some people claimed this measure helped reduce crime []], most experts agree that it actually caused more chaos because immigrants who didn't know how to behave got scared off]]>. Unfortunately for Border Patrol agents stationed along the southern border...]], these measures also failed miserably[]]: In 1933 however things started changing when Franklin D Roosevelt took office; he immediately wanted stricter rules put in place concerning customs entry into America []]. His first act as president was signing Executive Order 13112 which limited entrance visas from being issued To persons owning property within six hundred dollars worth Of land mass]; furthermore anyone found violation could face up to ten years imprisonment]}. This order came about due primarily To FDR's belief that many Germans living in Northern California were working illegally providing essential sustenance For their families…]]. Many Angelenos viewed this order as racist because it targeted German Americans rather than those responsible for causing much economic hardship within their community][]). As a result several protest rallies took place throughout Los Angeles County[]]: Fresno residents responded angrily[], Some even went so far asTo distance themselves from their city’s mayor []]: Racism wasn't simply confined To Sacramento however - many people still felt unfairly targeted just because they belonged To another race ['Caucasian' wasn't considered polite language back then]). The shop was called the Gift Shop and it served as an store for gifts for service members and their families. From 1921-1966, the Coast Guard Gift Shop was located at 625 S Broadway in Fresno. Fresno, California is a city in Fresno County, California. The population was 76,723 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Fresno County and home to Central Pacific Railroad's Depot Square. The area that would become Fresno was inhabited by the Chumash people for thousands of years before Europeans began arrive in what is now Fresno County in 1821. The first permanent European settler in what is now Fresno County was José Francisco Almaraz who founded Mission San Fernando Rey on March 17, 1824. A few weeks later, Mariano Castro and his party arrived with similar intentions but were met with hostility from the Chumash who considered them invaders. Spanish missionaries arrived soon after and began converting the native Chumash into Christianity. By 1830, mission towns had been erected throughout present-day Kern and Tulare Counties and ranching began to take hold; this led to increased trade between missions and settlers as well as conflict between Missions and ranch hands over land rights. In 1851, gold was discovered near Promontory Summit which led to large amounts of traffic passing through San Gabriel Valley; this increased competition among Missionaries for access to converts resulted in reduced funding for some missions while others flourished. These conditions contributed to a series of earthquakes that struck Northern California during 1850-1853; these quakes caused damage across much of Northern California including parts of Fresno County which saw heavy investment by developers looking to capitalize on mineral deposits. In 1859, following successful Rushmore Mines strike (and resulting Gold Rush) Captain James Wolkowicz organized a group of entrepreneurs called "The January Men" who spearheaded an effort to establish new settlements in central Southern Californian deserts far from mines or Mexican influences – their goal being Ruidoso Springs (near today’s Placerville), New Mexico Territory where they believed natural resources could be found based on reports from prospectors travelling thereabouts during this time period promising rich copper beds nearby. In January 1860, Wolkowicz formulated the idea for creating a town within sight of Ruidoso Springs – naming it after himself – naming it after George Washington Cranch (the uncle of future Ulysses S Grant). However due to objections from some members of The January Men who felt they had been poorly treated by promoter John Sutter (founder/director/owner/operator/manager/director emeritusof Sacramento & Western Railway Company), Cranch instead opted for Arroyo Grande instead; though Arroyo Grande initially fared poorly economically because no water source could be reached nor goods transported therefrom due largely to comparative lack thereof entailed by then-northwest corner location], two more men under Cranch's leadership purchased 7 acres northward along Arroyo Grande just below its mouth making it possible for goods vessels passage thereto without fear of grounding or sinking: these men became known as Theilers brothers because they owned all remaining land within those boundaries when they sold their interest back in 1886 upon purchase of Rancho Rinconada del Norte east of Folsom Lake northwestward extending thence into present day Kern County In 1884–85 Alfred Payson Drake established relationships with local farmers through beekeeping trips he made deep inside Yosemite National Park where he observed honeycombing evidence indicating ancient human presence there dating back 10 thousand years old.. Upon his return trip in 1888 he reported finding 4 tons Of Silver bullion worth $2 million at Ahwahnee Cave southwest depth within Yosemite National Park!
