The Fresno National Guard was established on November 15, 1916 by the act of Congress as an arm of the Department of Defense. The Guards were originally organized into two companies: the Western California Company and the Northwestern California Company. The organization grew rapidly and in 1918 it became a regiment with three battalions. In 1921, it was redesignated as a brigade and in 1928 it became a division. On July 1, 1936, the division was reorganized into five brigades and on September 1, 1938, its name changed to the Fresno National Guard Division. On June 5, 1941, the division received its first tanks when they were acquired from World War II veteran Harry Averill. The tanks helpedcellent to support general George Smedley's Operation Downfall which aimed to retake Fallujah from Japanese forces during World War II. The division moved north along I-5 towards Baghdad where they would join up with other military units in support of Operation Torch which landed in North Africa on October 8th 1942 As part of this operation they Battle at Tobruk which ended in success for America. After World War II ended and United States involvement in Europe began there was a need for new divisions to be formed so that American soldiers could continue their fighting obligation overseas while their families returned home. On April 15th 1946 President Truman authorized the formation of two new divisions within the Fresno National Guard Division- one made up of Reservists and another composed entirely of officers and enlisted men who had served Regular Army or Marine Corps units during World War II or Korea. These divisions were calledthe 101st Airborne Division (ABC) and 502nd Infantry Brigade (BB). In 1957 both divisions were disbanded as part of a reorganization that eliminated many volunteer organizations within the National Guard including cavalry units such asthe 2d Cavalry Regiment (2CR), motorcyclists such asthe Riders Motorcycle Club (RMC), artillerymen such asthe 1st Battalion/119th Artillery Regiment (1AR), Coast Guardsman from various ports around Southern California including San Diego County PACG(Ports Atlantic Group), Auxiliary Units commanded by commissioned Officers like Headquarters Battery/9th Field Artillery Battalion/California Army National Guard

A thirdmission - Mission Concepción - remained active until 1846 when hostilities erupted between Mexico and United States over Californias admission into both nations as part of Treaty OF Guadalupe Hidalgo which ended war between US forces under General James K Polk vs Mexican forces under Santa Anna led by Manuel Micheltorena . Upon Santa Anna’s ouster on February 2nd 1850 Ulysses S Grant took power over Mexico and reinstated Missions San José De Buenaventura,Real del Rio Grande etc... On July 25th 1860 gold was found at Sierra Madre foothills resulting in increasedmining activity throughout central Baja California however soon after this discovery many fields stopped yielding gold becausecultivation techniques had not changed much from those used before Gold Rush era When Mexico achieved independence from Spain on October 20th 1824 Fresno became one of five municipalities within Mexican territory that recognized Mexican Independence on November 16th 1824 Fresno experienced rapid growth during late 19th century as result men working heavy industry like coal mining came through town seeking cheaper wages than available among other major cities such as Chicago, New York City or even Chihuahua state where mines operated . By 1900 census there were more than 10,000 people living in Fresno proper including 3 railroad stations making it one stop for travelers coming into central America bound for points eastward
