The Fullerton Army Garrison was established in 1881 and has served the community ever since. The garrison is home to theFullerton Museum of Art, as well as a variety of other units that support military service in Fullerton County. One of the more notable deployments undertaken by the garrison has been its participation in World War II. From 1941-1945, the garrison housed over 1,000 soldiers and Marines who fought in Europe and North Africa. In 1952, the Fullerton Army Garrison became one of just four garrisons nationally to commemorate America's 50th anniversary of victory in World War II. Since then, various events have occurred at or near the garrison which have impacted how it functions and interacts with its citizens. One such event was Hurricane Katrina which destroyed much of downtown Fullerton on August 29th, 2005. Since then, many local businesses have been donated or rebuilt by members of the community who assembled materials for rebuilding purposes within 24 hours following Katrina's landfall.

The Fullerton Army National Guard Armory was originally built in 1917 as the Fullerton Arsenal. In 1924, it became the Fullerton Army Ammunition Plant. In 1945, it became the Fullerton Command and General Staff Training Center. It was renamed the Fullerton Army National Guard Armory in 1957. It was again renamed in 1978 to its current name. The armory is a multipurpose facility that includes storage for military equipment and materials, training ranges for troops and their families, and a museum dedicated to the history of the army national guard inFullerton California.
Fullerton, California (pronounced "Foo-lay-ton") is a city in southern California. It was founded in 1879 by an American fur trader, George Fullerton. The city became a major center for industry and commerce during the 20th century and experienced significant growth in population and economic importance during the 1960s and 1970s. Today, Fullerton is a very diverse community with a wide range of cultural attractions, businesses, and services. The city is located on the south coast of Orange County, about 30 miles east of Los Angeles. The first Europeans to arrive in what is now Fullerton were the Spanish Missionaries who came ashore on December 7, 1769, during their third attempt to establish a permanent mission at San Diego Bay. They named this land Misión de Nuestro Señor Jesús Cristo ya Llanos (Our Lord's Christ Mission), after Saint Christopher's Fortress outside Guadalajara which they had visited earlier that year. On July 10, 1879, George Fullerton purchased from Juan Bautista Alvarado 9 acres (3 km²) of Rancho Santa Ana del Cucamonga for $200 reasons unknown; he may have been influenced by reports of gold discoveries nearby. On October 15, 1880 — one month after full title went to Fullerton—"the first human being ever seen or heard of in Southern California was Jno [John] Wesley Powell." He set out from Sacramento looking for water sources near Mono Lake but never reached it because he died en route on October 24 while exploring the Owyhee River valley north of Mono Lake near White Sands National Monument; his party followed several weeks later when they found fresh water at Anza Springs two miles east of present-day downtownFullerton (). In 1886–1887 surveyors surveyed much of what is now Orange County — including what are now Pasadena and Anaheim Hills — as part of efforts to determine how best to develop areas lying west and northwest of Los Angeles City limits under state contract known as “The Fresno Grant” program led by Secretaryof State James Kahlman (). In 1902 three ranchers agreed to sell 1/4 acre (0·33 ha) each lots within Eureka Valley Reserve northeast of downtownFullerton (); this area became known as North Park () today. A fire destroyed most or all buildings inside Eureka Valley Reserve on May 14 1924; only charred timbers remain today from that event which left 12 people dead (). Howeverrestructure occurred soon thereafter when full control over East Park was given to City fathers following annexation byFullerton (); North Park would be completely rebuilt prior to its reopening as North Park Boulevard in 1951). In 1917 local entrepreneur Frank Hutton started production at his Weyerhaeuser Rubber Company plant at 4555 W Olive Avenue (), providing jobs for many locals although some workers did move away due worked there during World War I (). The plant closed in 1957 but reopened again in 1984 as Hanover Brewing Company () makingantaplanintsandaleagrewforthecompany until 1995(). In 1962 Hollywood star Debbie Reynolds started her own comedy act called "Debbie Reynolds' Comedy Club" located at 5556 W Olive Ave (). She continued performing there until her death in 1993. In 1871, Fullerton was founded by two friends, John A. Fuller and his brother-in-law George W. Blythe. The town currently occupies a large area of central California and is the largest city in Orange County, with a population of over 240,000 as of 2019. With its rich history and many cultural attractions, Fullerton has been called the "City of Dreams." Fullerton was first inhabited by Native Americans who hunted and gathered game around what is now downtown Fullerton. In 1769, Spanish missionaries discovered the site when they stopped in Traveler's Rest on their way to Mission San Fernando Rey de Belize. The mission built on this site became known as Mission Santa Cruz de Anza (St. Francis' Fort). In 1821, when Mexico gained independence from Spanish rule, it decided that full control over Los Angeles would go to Mexico instead of to the United States because America had not yet ratified the Mexican Constitution which gave Mexicans some rights equal to US citizens. Mexicans in Los Angeles began petitioning for independence from Mexico and on July 15th, 1821 they set up a military garrison at Fort Tejon (now part of Downtown LA) against American forces under General José Joaquín Zaragoza y Blanco who were trying to retake LOS ANGELES from Mexican hands. On October 25th Mexican troops occupied the fort after an hours siege; Commodore John Fonda ordered his ships anchored off shore while he marched into downtown LOS ANGELES with artillery fire across Grant Street in front of City Hall where he acclaimed Mexican Independence Day! The first recorded settler in Fullerton was Josefina Sanchez who arrived on May 10th 1800 with her husband Felipe de la Vega from San Diego; she named her new land Rancho La Paloma after her maternal grandmother's home province in Spain - La Paloma Province being located about halfway between San Diego and Monterey Bay. Sanchez moved 1/4 mile eastward along State Creek north of present day First Street towards what is now Goldbelt Road but failed to find any valuable minerals so returned home without making any further attempts for property ownership or settlement withinFullerton County until January 8th 1828 when she sold one acre lot at Third Street & Second Avenue for $5 per acre ($50 total purchase price). By 1830 there were ten families living within foursquare miles bounded by Second Avenue east down to State Creek south; Fourth Avenue west downacia state creek north then northeast along present day First Street past Chavez Ravine into today’s North Park neighborhood just beyond Katella Drive outside OF-THE-BOX GARDEN PARK boundaries! It should be noted that these early settlers did not live permanently near where they presently reside but rather seasonal encampments during various hunting or gathering trips throughfullerton county duringgolden age period wageringand horse races events etc....... In fact much like current day fullerton residents we enjoy organized monthly social events/festivals throughout year including Oktoberfest celebration fall.... more later
